Surprised not too see an existing thread. I missed the first two series when they first came out but recently caught up with Hannah and the rest of them on demand. Can't tell you how much I'm enjoying seeing normal, non botoxed people on screen, very refreshing.

Finding it hard to wait for Monday nights nowGrin

I tried the new series but I'm fed up of seeing naked Hannah. I have seen her nude more times then I have seen myself nude.

I love it!

I don't get the hard time everyone gives her Confused

Is it because she is not "conventionally beautiful & thin like many actresses, but has the cheek not to apoligise and is actually proud of who she is and how she looks?

Must put her in her place immediately.

SPsMrLoverManSHABBA · 03/02/2014 09:10

Has fuck all to do with her not been beautiful or thin, its to do with the fact its all its about now.

She made her point yet just keeps stripping off.

I couldn't care less about what she looks like or how thin or fat she is

Anyone think Adam is attractive in a possible serial killer kind of way Blush

I think that's what makes it so 'real' imo.

First episode was a bit 'woa, that's a bit full on' but now it didn't really register and it's just nice to see a non model type woman having sex. Didn't realise that we just don't see that on the screen any more.

When Adam runs shirtless through the streets to see Hannah and scoops her up,I criedSad Smile Blush

its very odd, it is this particularly that keeps me watching.

that really odd things happen and these things are inevitably taken in stride and discussed in normal conversation, like being so very odd and doing these odd things is a regular new Yorkers type existence

I watched a couple of the first series, but didn't get it at all - just seemed a bit depressing and sleazy - maybe I'm too old for it

It is a grower..... I don't always get it.. I am confused by Leah's tattoos. Does anyone think they're cool?

I think I'm probably too old for it sometimes but I like that its an alternative to the usual stuff.

Hannah in particular reminds me a lot of my friend who is a New Yorker, both physically and the way she talks, which is a bit disconcerting!

I like the fact their apartments are a bit grotty too.

Adam-I didn't get him at first, and the whole 'you're tight as a baby', makes me clench every orifice of my body!

Love Ray's voice

Not what the point of Tushawna's (sp?) character is...

The tattoos are about control aren't they? She said she had them done after she'd gained weight after her ocd episode.

I LOVE it. I love Jessa (and love the name- an trying to persuade DH that if the baby I'm current cooking is a girl we call her Jessa in her honour) and love Hannah and Adams dynamic.

I'm so addicted I'm watching ahead with the US broadcasts. DH doesn't get it at all and doesn't get me boring on about it but I am absolutely entranced. I wish I was as talented as LD quite frankly- to my mind she has absolutely captured what it is to be 23 and fucked up. Her experiences really mirror those of me and my friends 10 years ago.

Best quote- curtesy of Jessa of course- at the house party in series one:

"I bet you were born on a dirt floor!"

  • What's that supposed to mean?

"It means I don't think you're cool and I think that your mother was poor." GrinGrinGrinGrin

I watch it...am also watching along with US broadcasts..
I loved series 1 but I think series 2 and so far series 3 are very self-indulgent on Lena Duinham's part..
I still think the writing is amazing and clever and so funny (that scene at the very beginning of series 3 in the cafe with Ray/Hannah/Adam/Natalia and Natalia's friend was pure GENIUS...) but generally it's too much about Hannah's non-problems now and not enough about the others. I loved the tensions of her relationship with Marnie in series 1 - SO believable as young "best friends" - but now Marnie is barely even in it...
Not sure what to think really.

Though what's strange is that Lena Dunham was quite self-deprecating on Graham Norton recently I think she sold herself short a bit making it seem like she was 'just an actress' and not like she'd created/written/directed the entire show...so maybe it's outside influences making it more about Hannah.

I've started loads of threads saying I'm not going to watch it anymore Grin and yet I'm still here. It's really not my cup of tea. I'm sick of the nudity and the whining. I can't believe she's supposed to be only 24. Has anyone bee watching the gay equivalent that's just started. It's still on catch up it's called Looking and is on straight after.

Lighthousekeeping · 03/02/2014 21:06

And I agree it's nothing to do with her looks it's just tedious.

Yes! I've seen first episode, looked promising. I watched Queer as Folk again recently, it's filling the void that left.

I find it uncomfortable viewing. It's about the only thing I can think of that is aimed so obviously at a much younger demographic- it makes me feel really old Sad
I do like Hannah's tattoos though and I'm not usually a fan.

I have watched all 3 seasons and find it wilfully odd and irritating but am still watching. It's pretentious and predictable quite a lot of the time, like I just knew in last weeks episode that you'd see Adam's sister naked and that she'd have a hairy muff.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/02/2014 22:15

You see, it might be predictable but I LOVE seeing a hairy muff it was SO a merkin!Wink I'm fed up of seeing bald fannies all over the place!Grin

I'm finding this season a bit meh. I really liked the first 2 seasons, but I feel like they are repeating themselves now. Also, in the first couple of seasons you could see the friendship between the girls, but now I can't see why they like each other at all.

Report
BigW · 05/02/2014 23:58

It's still early days, but I know what you mean. I loved the relationship between the four girls.

Also, what did I miss? At the end of series 2 Marnie was all loved up and at the beginning of series three she's single. I feel like I missed an episode.
