I would like a tattoo on my left hand, in the same place as Cheryl Cole’s hand tattoo, any ideas? It won’t affect my job or anything.

Thanks

Do you have any other tattoos?

Hey OP, are you absolutely certain it won't affect your job, or future jobs?
I have a tattoo on my hand which I've had since I was 16, it's quite pretty but very noticeable and at the time I was sure it wouldn't affect by job prospects as I knew that I would find work within the creative arts. I've since realised that I will probably never be taken completely seriously in any work environment and although it shouldn't I really think that it does put most employers off.
I hope you find something you like, but personally I'd steer away from it unless you already have a lot of tattoos that it would blend in with.

Yes I have 4 small tattoos, 1 on each shoulder, a small on in my stomach and a small one in the middle of my back.

I’m self employed so it definitely won’t affect my job.

Hey OP,
I'd say go for it then if you've been thinking about it for a long time. If you are having it on the side of your hand it is likely that it will fade easily and the ink won't take so well due to the rougher skin texture so Id go for as simple a design as possible.

Hand tattoos don’t weather well. The ink fades and bleeds so much quicker than other body parts, simply because a hand move so much more than, say, a shoulder.

The tattoos on my shoulder have faded but then I got them in 1998 and 1999 and I used to be a sunbed user which doesn’t help.

I am going to go for a tattoo on my hand, I only wish that there was a metallic gold coloured ink, that would look lush with black ink.

I love green, blue and black tattoo ink, greens my fave and my skin is light olive so it looks good on me.

Regarding tattoos affecting jobs, well that’s serious discrimination isn’t it? Though I do understand why tear drop tattoos under your eyes might put an employer off.Confused

I’m planning a tattoo soon on the palm of my hand - my left hand (I’m right handed). I’ve just left a job where I had to wear long sleeves because of my existing tattoos but I did know that that would be the case when I accepted the job.

Not really, you can choose to have a tattoo, no one is making you have one.

(I have a number of tattoos, but all in easily hideable places)

Have you looked at white tattoos?

No I mean it’s discrimination if a job doesn’t hire you because of your tattoo Cruella.

No I haven’t heard of white tattoos GreenTulip, that sounds lovely!

the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people, especially on the grounds of race, age, or sex.Is the defination of discrimination.

Most places wont tattoo your hands unless you are covered in tattoos.

I really dislike hand tattoos personally, and I have a number of tattoos. I wouldn't have one if you paid me.

People I know that have had them, and wrist tattoos too, fade and blur quickly, regardless of skin tone.

I seriously considered a white tattoo but some of the articles I read about them put me right off. Do your research on them.

I will research them, thanks.

I am surprised that some tattooists won’t tattoo my hand if I’m not covered in them, I’ll just have to get a tattooist with no scruples!Grin I’ll phone about and see who would be willing.

Im not against hand tattoos at all, I don't have/want them but I've seen some stunning examples. Thing is, a tattooist who is willing to tattoo the hand of someone who doesn't already have heavy coverage is extremely likely to be really shitty tattooist. Really. Shitty.

But, yeah, if you want a shitty tattoo then go for it.

Report
Inappropriatefemale · 22/08/2019 12:20

Why are they likely to be shitty tattooists? The amount of tattoos someone has, or doesn’t have is down to the person not the tattooist, I’m confused?

It's a code of conduct type thing, OP.

Can you elaborate? There’s one tattooist in town who is said to be the best so I’m going to phone him and ask him.

@Inappropriatefemale they are likely to be shitty because no reputable tattoo artist will tattoo hands or necks. They are called jobstoppers for a reason. And i know now you are self employed but that could change.

I have some cherries in my handand he wasnt going to do it.But im 46 and have a fair few tattoos. So he did them.

Inappropriatefemale · 22/08/2019 12:33

Yep your right, I’ve just called the best tattooist in town and he said “I wouldn’t ruin someone’s life by tattooing their neck, hand or face, and have a long hard think about it and when you next see someone with a hand tattoo then stand about 10 feet away from them and see if you can see what it is, I bet you won’t be able too”, and he mentioned the fading quicker and that a tattooist that would do my hand is likely to be not very good! So no hand tattoo for me, I’ll get a fake one!Grin

Would a good tattooist give me a small loveheart tattoo on my finger? I’ve always wanted one of those and because it’d be small then surely this is okay?

I think a jobstopper tattooist is also the same as someone that would give Botox to a 21 year old!

Reputable tattooists do tattoo hands and necks, quite regularly in fact. But, it is something they do entierely at their own discretion.

The 'best tattooist in town' can be shitty. In fact they often are. Sometimes small towns do have good tattooists but you need to be able to recognise good work when you see it. Hand tattoos are technically very challenging, if someone is good at them they will have photos of older, healed hand tattoos. Photos of freshly applied and newly healed hand tattoos tell you nothing. I googled Cheryl Cole’s hand tattoo, it is not a well applied peice of work and the placement is one of the more tricky ones to tattoo well.

Exactly what I’m thinking MmeBufo and everyone says he is the best tattooist in the city and this has been said for years and so I’m inclined to believe it.

When I said ‘the best tattooist in town’ then I didn’t mean that I live in a town, I was using that saying!
