I want to go blonde but fear that it may be a Very Poor Idea.

Have a longish bob with blunt fringe.

Naturally darkish brown with several greys, so dyed a chestnutty colour.

Skin quite sallow - am a bit 'Italian looking' apparantly.

Am suddenly hankering after blonde.

Am not v good at going to hairdressers regularly so would have be something I maintained myself.

Would this be madness?

Yes.
Mad.
Try copper highlights.

Why blonde?

If you fancy a change, do something with highlights.

Go with your instincts. Very poor idea

My sister has brownish/reddish but with a lot of grey. Her hairdresser advised her to put blonde permanent on to just lighten up the tones - looks fab.

Blonde = major roots alert.

I meant, blonde bleached = major roots alert. Th stuff my sister used was from Boots and was just a toner thingy.

Blonde=Nasty root regrowth, dark eybrows, dry hair with no shine.

Copper highlights=No visable regrowth, eyebrows will match, soft shiny hair, blends well with your colour.

Do it.

Because I want to look exactly like Renee Zellweger in New In Town.

If you want to go lighter then get it done professionally. DIY lightening kits very often end up looking a bit orangey/peachy.

Spend a bit on the initial appointment and then go to a cheaper salon to get the roots done. My local salon charges just £28.00 to do the roots. Not all that expensive every 4-6 weeks really.

Oh no! I don't like that AT ALL. What's with the horrid Ronald McDonald colour at the front?

Hmm that bob is beautiful.

I could never keep it that sleek though. One bit of drizzle and it would start to frizz.

Could you?

She is pale. Bloody Norwegians, with their good bone structure and their lovely swishy blonde hair.

Still. There must be some natural brunettes who look good blonde.

No. Of course could not keep it that sleek. Would look like I had a cat caught in an electric thunderstorm on head.

Don't care. Still want it.

Can you find somewhere that has wigs so you can try on a blonde one? Maybe a fancy dress shop? (Just to check the colour against your skin, doesn't have to be a lovely stylish blonde wig.)

I once expressed the desire to try blonde (am very dark, almost black, with very pale skin). Happened to be doing work experience at a fashion mag. Was told NO very strictly and someone dug out a blonde wig to prove their point. They were right!

I've recently gone blonde NotANumber and love it! It's taken me a couple of salons to get a colour I'm happy with but very pleased with the colour now.

Like you I didn't want to spend my life wondering what it would be like to be blonde so went for it. Wish I'd done it years ago.

Have you got any friends who are bottle blondes? Ask them for the name of their hairdresser. Take some pictures from magazines with you of shades of blonde that you like and ask the hairdresser which ones would suit you.

If you don't like it you can easily dye it dark again.

Oh dear. Do it and get it out of your system. But we told you so

You cant easily dye it brown again. Well you can but it knackers your hair out (believe me I know)

I think more caramel. Think more Jennifer Aniston than Renee. Lovely

Report
Amandoh · 05/11/2009 12:15

That's not a bad idea Cahu.

Go gradually lighter. A lovely caramel/honey colour all over then you can add blonder hightlights around your face. If you fancy going lighter still then you can just have more highlights.

Isn't caramel/honey what on anyone other than a famous person is called Mouse?
