wedding evening and bringing DS along, who is BF. What on earth do I wear?

that's it really. I have been living in jeans and tees (to allow for the frequent BF) for the last 7 months, which is pretty depressing seeing as I usually love clothes and wear lots of dresses/skirts. I'm my pre-pregnancy size although I have lopped all my hair off in a fit of "I don't know who I am anymore"-ness, so even if I had lots of choice I might find it a struggle, iyswim.

On top of the what the hell am I going to wear dilemma is the where the hell am I going to find the time to shop dilemma. Evening reception is next weekend. DS is 7 months and can last about one hour when we are out and about in shops (but he is lovely!). He is coming to the wedding as we have no family to babysit and I never did get round to expressing anyway. Should I just accept that I'm probably only going to be there for a couple of hours anyway so it doesn't really matter?

Come on - positive attitude.

But first - budget and details of your size, shape and colouring please.

I wore a strapless dress and just tugged it down at the front to pop dd on at a wedding I went to. Not as revealing as it sounds if you have a wrap or pashmina to throw over your shoulder while you're doing it. There are lots of Xmas partyish things in the supermarkets at the moment (I got my dress from Tesco) so could you just fling a couple of likely numbers in your trolley next time you're grocery shopping and return the runners up?

OH!
Now on SMP so budget tightish.

I'm (i.e. pre baby)a big H and M (the edgier stuff) / Zara / whistles fan. Size 8-10 straight up and down. no bum or boobs but still a bit of a wobbly belly. DitaVonTeese complexion . Recently purchased tees and jeans from H and M divided section despite being 35 if that tells you anything (apart from me being a bit deluded). Lots of things on asos look good but it's overwhelming.

Thanks duff, hadn't thought of that. I've always been a bit bony flat chested for strapless dresses, but it's something to think about now I have a C cup!

Halterneck and a pashmina.

I did this. Wore a basic bf vest top from H&M (in black) which I already had, and got me a little snazzy beaded cardigan/shrug thing from Kew (or wherever!). With a skirt I had already.

If you get a really funky cardigan or shrug, you can go quite plain with the bf top underneath.

Do not wear a strpless dress with boning as it will be really difficult to pull down. Either wear a skirt and top and pashmina, or a dress with buttons at the neck line ( I have a tea dress which I wore with a pashmina to a wedding this year while breastfeeding DS)

I bet one of your dresses you already have will work since you are pre-preg size. You can feed in most things really! Try a few on and pull your boobs out and see. You don't have to unhook your bra, just push it to the side. A little cardi or something can help with modesty if you are worried. I've had some great times with a small baby at weddings, pass them round to get doted on by other people, feed, sticl in a sling and dance while they fall asleep

Thanks so much for all your ideas!

I pulled out some of my old (pre DS) clothes today and my (only) little black dress seems like it will do the trick perfectly, having a sort of halter neck, which I can pull down to the side, if I cover up with a shawl or cardigan!

I am chuffed that I have saved myself cash/stress and I know that the dress looks good and what shoes go with it etc. I now need to buy some support tights to hold in my wobbly tummy as it's clingy, but I'm not too bothered as the reason will be on my hip for all to see!
