I think it looks lovely on real nails.

Not the fake 'square' looking ones though - that's just chavvy!

If they are not too blingy (ie not white tips and clear, but pink over the top to calm it down) then I think they can look nice

Hmm. I don't like them really. It's the white tips.

I like french manicures to be slightly pinky to tone down the white tips but it is the only treatment I like on fingernails - block colours look old to me and don't get me started on jewels and flowers

Nails to be round not square and not overly long

and never, no never, to have a french manicure on toe-nails that is just gross

thems the rules

I like an "American" nail and actually franklymydear I think this might be what you like too, a "French" nail has pink or clear base, a bright white tip and clear overcoat but an "American" nail has a pink overcoat so that stops the white tip being quite so fluorescent in UV light.

Agree that french manicure on toes is wrong.

you bit off the acrylics nails!

oh phew looks i'm ok then,
as thats what i do only on the fingers not overly long, pink over the top.
never the toes, agree that is gross.

mind you i did used to like "nail art"

i like it because it looks groomed and polish and neutral.
plus i use a base coaat of sally hanson hard as nails and they don't break.

Hmm I'm not sure, I swap between chavvy and classy.
I think it depends on whether the person is generally well groomed, then it doesn't look out of place iyswim,

Sometimes it can jar with the rest of the appearance of the person, does that make sense?

At the moment I prefer clean, manicured nails with a slick of gloss. The thing with French tips is you can't always tell if the nails are clean

Whenever I've managed to grow my nails I French manicure them (or, as pasturesnew says, American manicure) and it always looks lovely IMO. Just like normal nails but nicer and cleaner and shinier! Doesn't last long on me though.

On normal nails, okay (if pink) on false nails... just no!

I think it's a bit naff and dated. It's the white tip that bothers me.

But the real horror is definitely french manicured toenails; long ones.... (shudder)

I had a pedicure tonight ... OPI's "you make me Vroom"

my feet look so lovely, I have to say!

Natural nails are beautiful, clean, file & buff.. perfect

same on toes, def short nails though.

LetThemEatCake · 03/09/2009 21:20

SHORT SHORT SHORT, all the way.

I asked the pedicurist (??) to re-do the length tonight, she'd left them with a bit too much white for my liking....

Even a natural French manicure seems to have a whiff of WAG about it nowadays. IMO better to stick to a clear shine, Chanel Reflet Immediat in clear is lovely.
