In a rash impulse buy I have bought a hairband (the fabric oblong with elasticated bottom bit) any tips on how to avoid the Eastern European Grandma in the fields (apologising to any EEGITF) look?

Do I wear the elastic behind my ears?
Does the fabric cover my ears or go behind?
Do I have the fabric right on my hairline (so no hair showing) or move it back an inch or two?
Am I too old (at 37) to pull off white broderie anglaise?

I dislike hats (they do not suit me) but have a parting which always burns.. hence my BRILLIANT idea.

But I look RUBBISH in it.

Why is it so difficult?

Don't be silly, of course you won't look like an EEGITF, you'll look like a 7 year old.

HTH.

I had a slight mishap with my hair, a couple of weeks ago. When I say slight, I mean I accidently shaved half the back of my head bald. I was tying floaty scarves around my head to disguise it. I got loads of compliments .

Now hwat is a floaty scarf?

Is it a square or a slightly skinnier winter scarf in a voile type material.

To tassel or not to tassel

Is that how you spell tassel?

What do you DO with it?

I think I may have missed the scarf tying gene.

No tassles you are not Yasser Arafat.
It is a small chiffon type from Claires, admittedly it does have skulls on it but I like them. It's long, not square and I tied it around with a bow at the back. V nice.
Or you could get a longer one and tie it with the ends hanging down. You could be Grace Kelly.

I cut my hair using clippers.

I decided to trim the back.

So far so good.

Took of the number 4 blade and shaved the long bits on my neck with the bare blade.

Checked in mirror and decided the back wasn't straight.

Shaved back of head, forgetting I'd took the blade off..

Half of head went completely bald.

Cried with lots of snot.

Eek! Shaved completely off and with a headscarf do you get strangers smiling at you in a sad sort of way?

It didn't look like I'd had chemo. I tied it like a hair band not all over my head. And thank you my hair is lovely . It's not very short all over, shortish over my ears with a longer, sweeping fringe, if you're interested ("we're not!" you all cry).

I am definitely interested in hairdos. Especially since mine can be described basically only as 'long'. Which I like, but I also like to hear about other options (on other people!)

I have some scarfy things but they are so massively long that they'd look silly used as a hairband - I've used them as belts before.

Erm

Do I detect a bunch there?

I can't 'cos I'm bald.

I've tried the hairband look - more as a hair-containment measure than anything else - and I just look like I'm back in 1973. Everytime I put a hat on my DD tells me I look like a cancer patient, so I've given up.
