What do you use as a beach bag and other terribly important questions........

So - what DO you use as a beach bag?

And - now I've managed to buy a couple of bikinis (thatks for all of your help on the other thread) what can I wear with/over them for walking down to the beach/going for a drink or lunch?

And - is there a product that I can put on in the morning to stop my hair going all dary and frizzy whilst on the beach?

Thank you!

Get some ideas/looks from here - and then get down the High Street and create a look that suits you.

Beach bags - I use either straw shopping bags a la "french lady perusing artisan cheese in the local market" (usually about £25 here or 6 euros in french supermarkets ) or I buy a cheapie canvas number from the high street.

I have about 3 jersey beach dresses (2 from Next, 1 Melissa Odabash.....from TK Maxx). Very simple but very chic. All about £10 each. Also wear denim mini and vest (once colour on legs established ) with flip flops. Doesn't look as tarty as it may sound and would only wear as day wear to beach rather than sightseeing or out in evening.

Kerastase do a brilliant sun protector cream for hair. My hair looks like straw within 10 minutes of sitting on beach/being in the pool. However, with a slick of this stuff my hair stays glossy and smooth. Slap it on and comb it through. Its expensive but lasts ages (about £15: more than enough for last year's 2 week stint in Sardinia and plenty left for summer hols this year). It also protects colour.

ooh - replies! Thank you.

Jersey beach dresses sound good. Denim skirt sounds rather hot - we are going to Greece.

Kerastase stuff sounds fab. Can you get it in House of Fraser type places? Recs for a cheaper one would be good too!

Hello, I am bored...

I have a rather nice Rossetti (sp) bag I picked up from TK Max for beach use and I normally would wear a tiny headscarf, that is already made up if that makes sense over my hair when in the sun.

Years ago, I used to use Kerastase products and they were really good.

I use the free bags from magazines on the beach.

I used a free bag last year. Do you know if there are any nice ones around at the mo?

Tiny headscarf eh? Instead of a hat? Have strangely tiny head, so hats are always a problem.

The reusable hessian shoppers from the supermarket are good because they have a plasticky coating inside so good for wet gear. Not as stylish as dome of the other suggestions though!

oh yes - I use the ready made headscarf type things too H & M are a good source and about £3 or less.

Denim skirt not too hot - we are talking very short/positively pelmet-like.....the kind of thing you would not let DD wear until she is married with kids I don't find it any warmer to wear than shorts and we always go to either Greece or Sardinia on our jollies

Not sure about where to buy Kerastase products from on the high street. I always buy mine from a salon.

Lol at the denim skirt!

I had cotton shorts last year which were comfortable and cool but I am too fat for them this year, as they are a size 10.

You can but Kerastase from Selfridges, House of Fraser - those posh stores.

Thanks. Have both of those virtually on the doorstep.

Would still like cheaper recs though!

Will look at headscarf things in H&M.

Yes, instead of a hat.

I can't for the life of me remember where I got it from (might have been when we were actually on holiday in the canaries). But I am sure they probably do something along the same lines in Boots or Accessorize.

It is already made up into a little headscarf, with the bit that goes underneath your hair at the back of the neck being elasticated and covered in the same material. You just pull it on over your head and put into place.

Oh and it is fine going in the pool with it on too. Obviously, not swimming with your head underwater... but at least you come out looking nice like when you went in and not like a drowned rat with hair all over the place! Dries very quickly in the heat.

here at £14.10 is cheapest I have found. However, ebay has it listed for 99p (with a Buy It Now Price of £9.99).

Don't 'do' Ebay but thanks for looking.

Does anybody use that Boots sun, swim and gym stuff?

my friend has a fab big straw big thingy that's flat bottomed and great for picnics, she got it in TK max recently. I have a kath kidston tesco number and a green straw bag from Primark several years ago. I like to pop a sun dress over my bikini.

Its shite, my mum buys one for me and one for her every bloody summer.

You can't put it down because its mesh so it fills with water/sand/crap.

I use one from accesorise usually. Its big and plasticy.

Asda do nice summery cover ups.
