Explain 'school run' clothing please

The whole 'school run' thang is mentiond so often on mn but I still don't get it.

It implies that the social biggie of the day is dropping off your kids in front of a lot of other mums and, also, that these other mums are going to be taking note of your outfit.

But that can't be the case. Can it?

I thought it was just the school run sundress and we didn't have to worry until next Summer!? Seems I was wrong.

no no, you seem to get a school run everything. But even if you were right, pop, why would there be a school run sun dress? Would you then change out of it if you were going home to do some housework or cooking? Would you only wear ot to show the mums and then saunter around the park and the shops buying cheese from a cheesemongers?

I don't need a school run sundress .

For me it's more about walking to school in the pissing rain and then going straight to work. Hence I need adaptable clothes/shoes that aren't too casual but are easy to walk in and keep me warm and dry. After school go straight to nursery often with a pushchair so can't carry an umbrella, walk in high shoes etc...

No idea how everyone else is interpreting it.

For once I understood (I think) - it was a sundress thingy and not a dress code for all year round. - Cod has confirmed my suspicions

Anyway all you need at the mo is a cagoule and flip flops/boots tbh.

keh, think I get it. 'School run' has nothing to do with it. It just means 'every day', It's an in mn term which has passed me by.

This would be me going to the cheesemongers.

"School run clothing" is a dreadful concept. The implication is that the woman who needs it in fact wears a housecoat or overall all day and never leaves the house to be seen in public except to drop and fetch her children, when she must Dress Up.

I'm so lost.

I am one of the few mums at dss school who does actually do the school run. 90% drive. I walk or as is more normally the case run cos I'm useless and disorganised.
Should I be wearing a sun dress then?

There is no such thing as 'school run clothes'.

It is a handy phrase for clothes that are casual, i.e. you would do the school run in them, but not wear them on a date/to the office.
