I am getting my hair dyed and cut....help needed...!

I have dark brown hair, seriously greying.

Green/brown eyes, very very dark thick eyebrows, which are shaped, but still quite heavy, dark eyelashes.

I have red tinged skin, long ish face. I usually have either a short elfin crop or a bob, with a fringe.

Right now my hair is long and out of shape (well longish, tie it back as its grown out). My hair is fine, quite thin at the front as very grey there. I have quite a high forehead with a 'widows peak', not a manly one.

I am 31, quite short.

I want to dye it (professionally have a good hairdresser, when I go).And I want a new style.

I am hoping for something that is a statement. I want to look good for my age, but not trying to look young for my age. I want it striking but not for the wrong reasons. I want brown but not just plain brown.

I am struggling to find any sites to help me choose some styles and colours.

Come on Mners, give me some input please?!!

Never say that to your hairdresser - what if s/he is in a bad mood?
You don't want to walk out the salon looking like one of Right Said Fred.

And you need to match colour to style - so have it dyed first, then go for a cut.
If you can't decide, just ask for a long bob, you can have that restyled easily.
It's much cheaper to dye your own hair, you can start with a semi permanent in a colour very close to yours then get more daring.

Custy - I'm sure you're a very attractive woman; there is no need to aspire to look like Tom Cruise.

I have used a semi for a while now, and its been ok, but now my grey is too much. I have used several different chocolate colours more recently to match my own colour and they just make the grey look orange now after a few washes. I have serious grey at the front, in large streaks, and two at the back less prominent.

I always have a long bob, I want something different! I will go get some mags, guess I am just feeling tight!

I have seen my hairdresser for years, and he has always said he can do a semi dye. But the last couple of times I have seen him he has said the grey is too prominent! and would benefit from a permanent. I dont beleive he is just trying to get money from me .

If you're ok with semi permanent, it's time to go the whole hog with a permanent dye.

Why not try blonde streaks and a few more next time and so on until you finish up a kind of dark blonde. Having a layered bob rather than all one length breaks up the hair colour and it looks less dyed. Also avoid a straight parting - nothing so aging as white roots.

Blond - i dont think so. my eyebrows and lashes are too dark, my skin complection too pink..

Have a bob, but change it slightly, maybe a side parting, no fringe, shaped up at the back?
My colour sounds like yours. I have a mid-brown permanent to cover the grey. A good hairdresser can mix up various shades to suit. And lowlights (red/copper) or highlights (dark blonde) if I can afford it. Permanents fade less but the regrowth can be more noticeable and you will have to keep going back every 6-8 weeks, so it gets pricey. The upside is that you can have a high maintenance style because it will get cut so frequently

I know it is going to cost, but I have decided to buy no more shoes until DH gets a pay rise, we are already walking more and using the car less, and I am drinking less alcohol these days, trying to make myself feel younger (been feeling a bit old and haggard lately). So I am thinking that my savings would altogether amount to about £80 per 8 weeks! Which should be enough. It is costing £70 for cut and full head colour, so I am guessing re-colour and cut will be a little less? I am considering hi-low lights, so anticipate it might be more than £70, but thats roughly it.

I need to do something now. Semi permanent just does not cover it enough anymore. It does not blend in so well these days.
