Charm Bracelets - Nice or Naff ??

Whizzz · 10/09/2007 15:11

A bit of market research on my part
What is the MN feeling on charm bracelets ? I'm thinking all sterling silver, personalised with charms & also maybe crystal beads.
Nice or a bit naff ??
And if nice, how much would you expect to pay for something like that ??

i bought my daughter a bracelet for her 1st birthday with a number 1 charm on it. I intend to buy a few more on memorable occasions and give it too her when she is 18 or 21... not so much to be worn but a keepsake.

Not something I'd wear, but it could make a lovely present for someone who does like them.

I like my charm bracelet. I've got one for DD for her 1st Christmas last year. I'm making it a tradition, every year, the night before christmas, I will give her a charm to add to the bracelet.

I think you could do really good ones.

You would have to research it well though I think.

Yes, I have a Troll bracelet . I've googled the Sweetie bracelets & they are lovely, but very pricey. I'm thinking of a more traditional bracelet with links - could be adult size or childrens - charms could be initials, birth stone, star sign, hobbies, sports, animals...etc

One thing I will say Whizzz is that when I worked at a jewellers, they stopped selling charms because people werent buying them anymore.

The bracelets yes, but the charms no.

Tbh I dont think many people do the traditional charm thing anymore.

hanaflower - by crystal beads, I mean the 'proper' high quality Swarovski sparkly beads in whatever colours

I love my pandora bracelet, decided against a traditional charm bracelet when I discovered pandora charm bracelets

Like them.

They are interesting to look at.

Even the mockers wouldn't say no at a quick reccy of someone's charms.

naff, sorry

if they have a few charms spaced out they look sad and naked
if they have loads they are huge and clanky

I like the Links sweetie bracelet with no charms on at all

spitzhund · 10/09/2007 17:24

they might look naff but you'd love a rifle, mrsB, you cannot deny

I have a nice one from Links, not the sweetie one, a more traditional one DH bought me with about 6 charms.
I like it but never wear it, it's too jangly, especially with DS.
Nice to have though.

If from a beautiful jewellers you can't go wrong at all. I have a Links of London one and a Thomas Sabo one..both stunning that I plan to hand down to my children. They are fabulous.

lovey - "If from a beautiful jewellers you can't go wrong at all", but what about if made to order lovingly by hand

I will make myself one I think & post a pic to see what you think. I made a friend one for a birthday & it turned out rather well (if I say so myself )
