Tall people and/or fashionistas -- help me find the perfect pair of jeans!

I'm tall (6 ft) and jeans in most shops are too short, eg. Boden long ones are still too short. I need probably 34" or even 36" leg length. I'm after straight cut rather than flared or bootleg. Gap have just started doing some jeans in a 34" leg, but mainly out of stock and not in combination with the waist size I need (UK size 14, generally).

I found some in Dorothy Perkins Tall range which did fit, but they were very skinny jeans, and made me feel as if I was trying to look like a 14yo. Long Tall Sally have some, but are also described as Skinny -- I quite like narrow fit, but don't want the skin-tight effect, as it's too mutton-dressed-as-lamby on me.

Any thoughts? I'm after dark navy or (ideally) black, smart rather than casual.

The Times had an article on this very subject on Wednesday - hang on, I will find and link.

here

(I'm 5'3", but DD is 5'5" already, and only 12, so am getting prepared!)

frogs - I'm 5'11" and I was going to recommend Gap. I've not had too much trouble getting them (and from an outlet store too so half the price ) although there are periods of drought. Only problem is that they do stretch a lot - they fit fine after a wash but within a few hours they are all baggy everywhere.

DP does longer length ones but I've not found them long enough.

TopShop apparently do but there isn't one round here.

Top Shop do 34 and 36 " legs. I like their jeans very much and I am hard to fit, for jeans.

fruittea - thanks for the link. Jut had a look at the tallgirls site. Might be most useful

I bought the Long Tall Sally 'skinny' ones and they are not that skinny to be honest.

I'm 5 foot 11 and I always buy my jeans from Top SHop online - the tall range. They have loads of styles, you are bound to find something you like.

Oh, I love you all! Off to the Top Shop website. I did think of going into the real shop yesterday, but couldn't face the hordes of teenagers. I'm thinking 9.30am on a school day is probably the only time TopShop is bearable.

Mwah, mwah.

French connection jeans are always pretty long.

Definitely definitely Topshop. I need 34" or 36" (depending on whether I'm wearing heels or not) and I swear by both Topshop "Tall" jeans and also Zara jeans. Zara jeans and trousers tend to be about 35" and they do a good range of styles, colours, and cuts.
I've had a few good pairs from Gap too.

Okay, have ordered from the LTS website, reassured by themoon's experience. The Topshop ones did look v. skinny, and I was hoping to avoid that 'poured on' look.

Will report back when they arrive.

I bought some Rock & Republic jeans in the sale the other week, but had to have them altered because they were a 35 inch leg. I've never seen such long jeans!

Have just looked at the Rock & Republic website.

How much?

Mine were £79 down from £240!!
I went & tried them on, and liked the fit so much (other than the length!) that I asked if they had an aleration service, and as they did, I bought them!
Would not usually spend that much on jeans though!

Frogs, the Topshop ones aren't all skinny. They do a whole range of different styles in their Tall range. Some skinny, some wide leg. The ones I've got are sort of boot cut.

frogs · 31/08/2007 11:56

Yes, I saw that. But I'm after something that is reasonably narrow but not ultra-skinny (on account of my not ultra-skinny legs!), which seems to be a slightly rarer beast.

Have you looked on the French Connection site? Their jeans are often pretty long.

Will look at French Connection. Tbh I generally boycott them because of that appalling FCUK slogan, but in the interests of jean nirvana I will have to get over myself. But then again most people say Boden Long are long, but they are still too short for me.

I always find French Connection too short but maybe that's just me. I think their trous and jeans must be about a 32" leg.

Sounds like you're sorted with your Long Tall Sally purchase Frogs but next time you're near a big branch of Topshop or a Zara I do recommend you have a look at their jeans. I'm sure they'll do some that suit you. In fact, I've got 2 pairs of Zara jeans that are very long (36" I reckon) and very straight/not too tight on the thigh. I think they both cost about £30. Actually, might have been more like £15 in the sales.

PS. Not that I'm wearing any of these jeans at the mo because I'm 33 weeks pregnant. Annoyingly Topshop don't do their maternity jeans in a 36" leg so I've just got one pair of 34" maternity jeans which are just about long enough since I'm not wearing heels these days.

It really annoys me that no one makes long jeans for pregnant women . Do they think that only petite ladies get pregnant?

Report
Harrogatemum · 31/08/2007 17:14

missbumpy - I actually got some maternity jeans when I was pregnant from Mothercare which were surprisingly long enough! Might be worth a try as I normally need a 36" leg. And whereabouts in the country are you as there is a fab maternity shop in Harrogate called NuNu where I also got some under the bump maternity jeans that came from Denmark and were really long - cant remember the label as I've given them away now but I lived in them!

missbumpy · 31/08/2007 19:09

Thanks Harrogatemum. It would never have crossed my mind that Mothercare might do long jeans. I might have a look. I'm in London so I should be spoiled for choice really. I just can't face going into town much these days and to be honest, I feel like there's no point in buying maternity clothes with 6 weeks to go. I'm just wearing the things I've got to death...who cares if I wear pretty much the same outfits every day?!
