I need help, I have been invited to husband's work do, dress code is "dress to impress". I am hugely overweight and have no confidence, this will be my first time meeting all his colleagues.
I am large all over but the main problem areas are tummy and bum/hips, what can I wear so I look okay?
Oh and i really cannot walk in heels, i look like a newborn giraffe.

Can you say your approx dress size if possible, as ‘hugely overweight’ may not mean the same thing to everyone.

I am around a size 20, I've attached a pic to try and show my shape.

Budget wise i could go up to £250 for complete outfit (dress, shoes, accessories)

Also you have beautiful hair.

I think you're loads more attractive than you think you are

Dress to impress is an awful dress code I had an event to attend last year with this code. It was majorly stressful beforehand especially if your not confident as I’m not. I was a 22 6ft but got down to a size 20.

I tried on lots of clothes beforehand and chose a dress in colours that suited me in a flattering shape, toned up a little and tried to loose a few pounds, got some nice jewellery, got a light spray tan, my hair done, bought a new lipstick and some shape wear one of those things where you wear your own bra underneath. I put on a big smile, received lots of compliments and felt better than I have done in years. I had a fabulous time.
Monsoon goes up to size 22, as does Whitestuff, ASOS, Phase eight, Debenhams and John Lewis (but you often have to order the larger sizes online) to name but a few.

You could go for a personal shopping appointment at Debenhams. I am not sure of your skin tone eye colour but I would think don’t go for safe minimising black unless you really suit it instead maybe opt for navy, purple, red or green and really rock it. Enjoy OP.

You are so kind, thank you for saying nice things (embarrassed face)

I have blue eyes, I don't know my skin tone - i think i have cool undertones but don't know the actual skin tone medium to medium light i think

You would look amazing in the Scarlett and Jo tuxedo dress

You have a lovely curvy figure (I am also overweight but hold it in all the wrong places, you have a great bust and small waist!) I would look at John Lewis and monsoon, I ordered some cheaper dresses recently from places like simply be and boohoo and the quality was really bad, thin materials etc. Something in a heavier material and more structured would be great! V neck to show off your bust!

OP, you’ve got a great figure there, I imagined something quite different when you said ‘hugely overweight’ - I’m actually jealous. You can look amazing.

Fellow plus size here! You honestly look fab and have nothing at all to be worried about.

Not at all keen on the Scarlett and Jo. It looks very dated. Ditto the blue wrap dress from JL.

The velvet green one is lovely and I really like the sparkly silvery, Juna Rose one, posted at the start of the thread. Also like the bronze knotted one.

YY, THIS^^! With bells on.

Omg thank you so much for the compliments 😚

I like the green dress, anything too long i fear I would trip over. Do you think i could wear thick black tights with it? What about flat shoes?

The green velvet one is gorgeous and I think your figure would look amazing. I would not wear thick black tights - could you wear thick flesh coloured? (I’m assuming you want to hide your legs? But I think black will emphasise them). How about low kitten heels? About 1.5cm high?

You have a great figure. I am usually a very similar size but without the curvy waist. I’m definitely more of an apple. I say usually as I’m pregnant at the moment so look more like a watermelon than an apple 😂
There will be lots of lovely dresses that will flatter you around. The higher the heel the better and some super sparkly earrings would be great.
I usually aim for a wrap dress or wrap over top which is a v neck without being too booby and a capped or 3/4 sleeve rather than sleeveless.

Do you feel able to not do thick tights? They make flat shoes harder to find. Without tights check with ASOS or Boden, both do lovely flat shoes

I had no idea what on earth they were before, but someone mentioned micronet tights on bere recently. Only based on a quick google, I think they might look nice with the green dress?
