Think DP is getting me this for my birthday. I want simple - probably a plain v-neck in pale grey, something like that.

Where from????

not sure re sizing - have never been flush enough to order from them
what's their returns policy? cpuld you get it and send back if too big?

(NB do not get poloneck if you are norkularly gifted, stick to v-neck idea.)

ahhh, but they have very limited colours and sizes left.

The grey v-neck they have is only available in a 10 and I need a 12, actually 14 might be better.

Anywhere else?

OMG they're so expensive!! I bought one from Tesco's last year, reduced from £40 to £20 and it is great. Very nice, flattering cut, 100% cashmere, black polo neck. They had lots of v-neck ones. I would never even have looked there, but the lady that 'did my colours' recommended them saying they were great and she was right. I'm definitely keeping my eye out for they winter collection!

CD - those Uniglo ones aren't REAL cashmere though, are they? It says 'Sourced from the finest long, bright white fleeces, our cashmere sweaters are incredibly soft and elegant. ' I want a decent quality one that I can wear to death if I want to.

Has to be plain, v-neck, i'm thinking not too tight, quite like a bit of a slouch sloppy joe type of feel to it, like I've borrowed my DP's jumper type of look maybe? Somehing that looks good with keans but I can wear with pj bottoms round the house.

Why aren't they cashmere? It says 100% cashmere, can it be anything else?

MrsBadger · 18/07/2007 17:07

the uniqlo ones are real cashmere.

the price diff betw (eg) Brora and Tesco/Uniqlo is apparently the length of the fibres. Short-staple yarns are much cheaper but go bobbly quicker - long-staple yarns are more expensive cause they're harder to make but stay smooth much longer.

brora styles are classic. at those prices they're an investment buy, so imho you wouldn't want something on trend.

just to irritate cod, I'd say go for the most expensive ones. Try Pringle of Scotland (kidding obviously. Didn't the white company use to sell cachemire jumpers?)

Uniqlo ones are quite nice and v. good value but don't feel all that different from lambswool necessarily (they seem to vary a lot). Now Brora....

I've got a vague recollection that Boden was doing a 100% cashmere v-neck in the autumn preview but of course TC has been extremely rude about Boden in the past so perhaps not the best choice. Other online cashmere purveyors are Pure, pure collection and Lands End (although only summer colours at the mo) purple v-neck? - which has gotten good reviews for the quality if you don't mind "classic" look. I can't link to Cashca cos my work browser is so outdated but they might be worth a look. You may need to wait for winter stock though. White Company definitely do cashmere but once again may need to wait for autumn stock.

Primark has some cashmere items.
In no way as luxe as Brora, but better on the pocketbook and they are sooo soft and lovely. Also, my MIL bought me a pretty green short sleeve polo neck cashmere jumper for xmas from Marks.
I love it!!
