Best hairstyle and colour?

I've just turned 60 and for a while now I've felt despondent about how I look and feel desperate for a real change.

The despondency is caused by two things really; full time carer to my mother so quite isolated and no friends other than those I make online, and health issues (two of which contribute to being overweight) including lack of energy due to recurring anaemia for which I have infusions (but never really feel any better!).

I received some money for my birthday so have booked an appointment to have my nails and hair done on Friday and wonder if any of you savvy ladies can recommend an easy to manage hairstyle and colour? I'm right-handed and the style really needs to be easily manageable as I have difficulty raising my right arm above my shoulder to use hairdryer after having a nerve cut due to injury.

I'm quite light skinned with blue-green eyes, and can sometimes have a high colouring due to Rosacea.

Help anyone???

I used to work with a gorgeous 60 year old lady who had a messy bob in an ash brown colour with a few blonde highlights.

Hi Trialsmum and thanks for responding. I just googled the description you used and came up with this page:
www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1536&bih=694&ei=MTTeWqvRC4r1kwX2uqj4CA&q=messy+bob+in+ash+brown+with+a+few+blonde+highlights+for+60+year+old+woman&oq=messy+bob+in+ash+brown+with+a+few+blonde+highlights+for+60+year+old+woman&gs_l=img.3...1648.1648.0.2276.1.1.0.0.0.0.85.85.1.1.0....0...1ac..64.img..0.0.0....0.uc-rRkVfV_0

Can you narrow down one of the pics so I have an idea? Thanks again.

Sorry that link is so long, don't know how to shorten it!

My hair is currently mousy brown and rather short, blunt cut. I probably should have mentioned that - sorry. But even if the recommended style is longer than mine is at the moment, it will give me a personal goal and something to aim for.

Also, had anyone had their eyebrows done professionally? Mine are so pale they look non existent and I keep reading about how brows frame your face. Not sure if it's worth bothering about now but I've always wondered...

Hi Op

Sorry but your link doesn't seem to work.

I would def advise you to have your eyebrows done professionally. Perhaps you could get them threaded and tinted?

Browse through Pinterest there are loads of lovely hair ideas on there.

There is nothing like a good cut and colour to lift your spirits.

Enjoy your day out and hopefully you will feel rejuvenated.

Good luck!

I had mine cut short when I stopped having my hair coloured to allow the grey and silver to come theough.

I grew it into a Linda EVans bob like in the first picture and it's now the same as the second picture.

All I do is dry it upside down and then using a round brush just flick the ends out around the face and under the back when almost dry.

If you can't tip your head down you can still blast your hair to dry by moving the dryer to give volume.

It really doesn't take much styling at all.

Your best investment is Elnet hairspray to keep it in place but without it looking rigid.

I have a textured graduated bob with lots of layers
I have dark hair but with blonde highlights underneath only to avoid regrowth. I also put a semi perm rose gold tint on every few weeks
It’s so easy to look after and I don’t remember ever being so pleased with my hair. I can blow dry it to get it looking very full but it also looks good if I just get up and brush it ( like today). I also really like the Aussie miracle dry shampoo as its clear so no white residue

Hi OP, I had my brows done here
www.naturalenhancement.co.uk/semi-permanent-eyebrows-london
They have model days in the training salon, which are cheaper. If I had the money I'd pay for an experienced technician though, as they're faster and it's a little uncomfortable - needle scratches.
I do think it makes a big difference to the face though. Not sure if it works, but some MN posters say castor oil thickens eyebrows and eyelashes.

Ladies, thank you for your replies, suggestions and comments. I had my hair done on Friday, took a picture I found online and the stylist really listened to me and gave me the style in the pic so I really like it. I've also bought Elnet hairspray and Aussie miracle dry shampoo. I haven't washed my hair yet but will also try the head upside down drying technique. Thanks again.

The beautician who did my nails suggested I have the 'microblade' treatment for my brows so I will book an appointment for that.
