What do you wear to yoga?

I’m starting classes soon but have done a couple of YouTube videos at home to get me started, just in leggings and a tshirt.
Will I look stupid turning up to the gym class in that?
Okay, really I’m just after an excuse to buy something new! What do you wear?

I wear sports active wear leggings and a sports active wear vest nowadays but when I started I wore leggings and a t-shirt.

Tk Maxx sells nice leggings and vests.

Now while this is all very useful information, I have gym stuff already and was secretly hoping this would open up a whole new world to me, shopping wise Grin
Although even as a die hard gym goer, i hate vests!
Suppose I could use some of my gym tops which are tighter fitting and less likely to rise up.

I wear t shirts and leggings.
As long as they aren't baggy and are tight and tapered around the ankle they are fine.
Also the less slippy style ones are preferred as in some positions you have to put your foot on your leg so you want some bone slip!

None slip!

IMHU yoga classes full of people in t shirts and leggings are great - avoidant where they are decked out in Lululemon from head to toe.
Enjoy yoga - it is great

Leggings (usually colourful Lycra ones, they’re less slippy than cotton ones in poses like tree) and a tighter fitting vest. Baggy T-Shirts end up falling around your face when upside down and it’s very annoying

Wear what you have but underwired bras are uncomfortable and I found I didn’t need full on anti bounce. So went for croptop shaped things.

If you can a top that doesn’t fall down when inverted that is a bonus. I used to wear random cotton tees with elastic round the bottom.

I prefer cotton leggings as when doing crow or other arm balances I find synthetic fabrics more difficult to hold a pose. I wear a T-shirt for warm up and underneath I have a vest with built in bra.

I wear a tight fitting vest top with built in bra, tucked into leggings with lycra, no shoes or socks. The t-shirt will ride up move about too much. There are some nice tops and leggings available at Asos

Tshirts are a pain in the neck in yoga. They hang in your face in down ward facing dog and fall upwards exposing you in inversions. You really do need a tight fitting tshirt or vest.

Why avoidant to classes with people wearing lulu lemon? I guess Id be unwelcome in sweaty betty too? Blush

Purpose made clothing is so much more comfortable than regular fashion leggings with seams that pinch or tshirts that hang in your face.

I have a few pairs of sports legging - M&S, Nike, Lands End.

I try and wear a Lands End sports top I have as that fits well, so doesn't pop towards the floor when downward dog or similar is happening. Otherwise, tops that are somewhat fitted rather than loose.

And yes, a sports bra or otherwise non-wired one can be more comfortable. Or a crop-top if you are suitably not over-endowed (I wish I could get away with crop top!).

I did buy a yoga magazine for a plane a while back, and there were lots of ads for bamboo clothing and specialist yoga clothing that looked nice too. But probably expensive....

Anything stretchy is fine. Just make sure your leggings aren't see-through.

Hmm

OP, the Sweaty Betty and Lululemon stuff is expensive but it's made for purpose and really comfy. I wouldn't pay full price (as I don't practice enough!) but I wear a SB vest (as PP have said, you don't need a vest, just don't wear anything baggy - I wore a tee to my first class and ended up with it over my face for most of it) and leggings that I bought second-hand from eBay and they're fantastic. It's worth keeping an eye out for the SB sales too.

I also wear an underwired Panache sports bra and have no issues with comfort - but I'm fairly top heavy and really need to have the girls strapped down!

Judging people on what they wear is pretty poor concentrate what's going on on your mat and not be judgemental..... I wear Alo yoga, Teeki or some really old yoga leggings.

I will second @Mercurial123 in her recommendation of the Alo yoga brand, I've recently got some leggings a bra and a vest and oh my goodness they are so so lovely. Expensive but lovely material and colours, the high waisted goddess leggings are incredible. You do get what you pay for in some instances, I got a pair of leggings for yoga from H&M but they go see through at the slightest bend, so they are just for practice at home. It encourages me to actually go to classes or the gym if I have a nice outfit on Blush

I like Sweaty Betty - I am often in yoga gear for a good portion of the day and it is nice to feel stylish, it is also very functional. I wear leggings and sometimes harems - you need a tight vest top really, as a t shirt will flop over your head/get in the way. Also something warm/socks for warming up and for relaxation at the end - I often wear 3 or 4 layers (bra, vest, long sleeved t shirt, sweatshirt) and strip off as necessary.

Totally agree silk that a nice outfit motivates me to go to the gym!

Thankyou, I’ll check out Alo Yoga.
I usually wear a sports bra for the gym so will probably just keep using those but might buy some new tops that some ride up. I have some for running and general gym use but will keep my eye out for something on that site.
