Think I'm going to get a fringe cut

Dark brown hair, bit wavy, quite thick and heavy so tends to dangle when it gets below shoulder length.

I'm 48 and the dangling is starting to feel a bit ageing. Thinking of having a choppy chin length bob with fringe - see picture.

Is this style a bit young, do you think?

Think I'm going to get a fringe cut

That's basically the cut (I try to) have.

I like the cut. Not too young i don't think. Hope not, anyway. Am similar age to you.

I like my fringe slightly shorter as that would annoy me too much.

I love that cut and if my hair was thick and straight(ish) I'd be quite tempted to try it myself.

Love that cut. Go for it. Fringes are awesome.

Definitely not too young... not that there is such a thing 😉

It's a good style but just be aware that fringes are hard work to keep looking good, especially with wavy hair.

Hmm, that's my concern. It's taken me 40 years to get over the trauma of a '70's pudding basin fringe, so no idea what my hair will do.

Might be revisiting my 'water and combing down' routine that I had during those feather cut years:)

Do it! I bloody love having a fringe. If I do nothing with my long wavy hair having a fringe always makes it look more “done”.

I wash my hair twice a week and do an extra fringe wash in between.

I trim it myself every couple of weeks as I can’t be arsed to get to the hairdresser. Though they’ll do it for free if you can be bothered!

Enjoy Smile

I love my fringe —it hides wrinkles—

Interesting..... I can’t do the two - that are needed for strike through. My iPad converts it to one long —

Looks like a lot of faffing about to me. Life is just too short!

Remember that once you have a fringe if you don't like it you have to look blooming tatty for a very long time before you get rid of it.

I no longer have to do my hideous eyebrows with my massive heavy fringe!

I have the narrow ghds. They are perfect for fringes. Tames a heavy fringe in seconds and makes it easily manageable.

I invested in a pair of hair cutting scissors too. I trim my own fringe if I can’t get to the hairdresser. Not the best but looks fine and does until I can get there.

Had my fringe cut two years ago and don’t regret it at all. I look younger and it covers the frown line on my forehead. My hair’s naturally wavy but I straighten it. Takes no time at all and always looks smart. Hair gets cut every 6-8 weeks. My hairdresser is happy to trim for free whenever it’s needed but I never get around to it.
The only time it was annoying was on holiday in a very hot country as I just wanted it OFF my forehead - and it went a bit wavy in the humidity.

Salli Hughes does a very good fringe tutorial on YouTube!

Yay to fringes!
Be aware, they generally need more washing but just wash your fringe; no need to do all your hair.
Fringes can be tricky to dry/style so that will need practice.
There is about a fortnight between a fringe being too short and too long.
Clips and plaits are your friend - a quick way to get it off your face.

I'm getting a fringe cut in again tomorrow actually. Not sure what type though.

So jealous of all you fringed ladies. I have a massive cows lick so can't control a fringe

Report
TheMathsTrainee · 09/02/2018 19:54

I always use a big round brush to dry my fringe

and the rest of my hair

You can have a fringe Bexley with a cows lick. (I have a cows lick too)

I think if the fringe is thick enough it will weigh it down iyswim

I do Sali's drying while brushing side to side quite violently, and then a quick straighten after as my hair is quite wavy.

I'm super low maintenance with my hair and the above takes seconds.

After a few years and a very hot summer I got bored of it and started to grow it out. Then I saw photos and realised how much better it looked as a proper full fringe and got it back. No regrets! It also looks good when my fringe is done and the rest is natural and wavy or up or whatever.

Fully on board with a fringe. I love them. Mine has fully grown out and I'm itching to get it cut back in.

Anti choppy bob. But that's because it would turn triangle on me. A triangle with flippy sticky out bits.

This is the best method I've found for a perfectly behaved fringe. I don't bother with any product like she suggests, just a narrow toothed comb, flat brush and hair dryer www.salihughesbeauty.com/videos/video-fringes/

I've tried Maths. But it flicks up to the left and right, my hairdresser basically said I've no hope for a fringe cos I've got weird hair. I've got a pixie cut now so until it grows out i don't need to worry

I missed that you have waves, definitely no to the choppy bob. It'll drive you up the wall. A long bob at least, would be better.

The style in the pic is lovely OP, go for it! I don't think it an overly young style at all - whatever that means!

I've not got a full on cows lick but I do get a bit of a hump in a side parting. I've got short fringe (above eyebrow) and it is so easy. The only high maintenance thing about it, is getting it trimmed every couple of weeks.

I find having a fringe that my hair on the whole looks a whole lot tidier.
