Coloured shoes with black tights. A big fat no?

Help me wise people of S&B!

So I have just bought some berry coloured patent loafers that I intend to wear with skirts for work. However, am I going to look like a Grade A plonker if i'm wearing coloured shoes with black tights? I have no idea...i'll let you decide Grin

You’ll be fine.

I’m a massive fan of coloured opaque tights and have every colour- usually I try and match shoes or boots to coloured tights. If wearing coloured dress to skirt black opaques will look great. There are loads of burgundy ones out there

I thought about buying some berry/plum coloured tights but then worried I would look a bit Robin Hoody....!

I have burgundy ankle boots and I wear them with a skirt or dress and will wear black opaques. I wouldn’t wear burgundy opaques with them. I feel like it would make your legs and feet merge.

Personally I think it's a terrible look, and make your feet look friggen huge. However I also would not wear coloured opaques and haven't since about the age of eight, however if you're a quirky dresser go for it.

Absolutely not. But even worse would be to wear same colour tights as shoes, you’ll look like a berry!

Can you wear them with nude tights instead?

I'd wear coloured shoes with black tights. I like the contrast

I'm not a quirky dresser, no.

I think I will try them with nude tights tonight and see how they look. See, i'm glad I asked now!

Thanks Grin

Only if the tights are opaque. It would look ridiculous with solid black.

Oh, I quite like thick black tights with patent purple Mary Janes 😕

Oh dear. I wear:

  • opaque black tights with coloured shoes
  • brightly coloured opaques
  • shoes and tights the same colour

Lurking as I want to wear a dress with black tights and some sort of taupe/mink colour jigsaw Cara boots. Seen some looks on google that look good

Photo?

I think it should be judged on a case by case basis. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I've just tried them on and colleague says they work with black tights (clearly we are very busy at work today Grin).

I think it's fine unless the shoes are nude, then it's VERY VERY wrong indeed!

Wot mulberry sed ^

I HATE black shoes but I LOVE black tights

I don't mind my feet looking bigger as they are small for my height/weight (narrow size 5 5'7 and size 14-16)

but I do think it needs a look where you can have a chunkier shoe.

not good with a little pointy kitten heel for eg. but loafer should be fine

you know you need to post a pics

It works with darker colours. Any sort of pale or too bright doesn't work for me.

Black and Berry sounds fine,

I would wear black tights with berry shoes, especially if they are a dark colour berry. I would probably be in complete back with some gold or silver jewelry
I would also wear navy tights with navy shoes & a navy dress - another no no on MN.
Try them on and see what you think.

Ignoring the fact they're leggings and not tights, does this look ok? Similar to my boots but I want to wear them with a dress

They look nice. It wouldn't be a good look with white or nude shoes.

Looks at entirely navy outfit including tights and shoes. Ponders similarity to blueberry. Decides does not give a shit.

I love contrasting shoes with black tights (my concern would be a dark berry shoe might not contrast enough), although am too much of a shortarse to carry it off myself. I am a big fan of same colour shoes and tights, it makes my legs look much longer and I regularly wear a single colour outfit. I look awesome. Style 'rules' are oppressive bullshit and should always be ignored.

I think that looks great. Burgundy tights would be too much.

I think they look pretty nice I must admit. I don't usually like style rules but I didn't want to look like an arse! Thanks all Smile

It looks nice, I wear coloured shoes (normally berry, browny tones) and black opaques all the time. Otherwise in winter you'd just have to wear black shoes

Also they are lovely shoes!
