Hedge fund style?

Just confirmed that an important (job interview type) meeting I'm having tomorrow morning is in the office of a hedge fund. I don't work in that area so wardrobe is more trousers and top than power suit, but I don't want to stick out like a sore thumb when I walk in the door either. Company website has only headshots for biogs and it looks like jackets on most of the women. Do I need to summon up my inner 1980s Melanie Griffith in the next 12 hours??

No power suits needed! Smart black trousers, heels, nice shirt (or plain top and smart jacket), minimal makeup and jewellery. You'll be fine!

Phew, thanks, I should be able to cobble that together.

Good luck! Apparently (I've been out of the industry for a while) fancy sxhmantzy designer shoes are very popular with women.

I don’t work in this exact world but some of my clients do - most women wear good smart dresses these days, and jackets for meetings. Only occasionally see suits these days.

Thanks, both. My love of designer shoes would stand me well if I could wear them any more . I'll see if I can dig out something more glam than my Clark's Mary Janes Grin. Unfortunately I think all my work dresses are about a size too small so I'll see what's in the wardrobe.

Good luck. Walk tall and be confident. You'll be fine (they are mostly pussy cats).

Don't waffle, answer clearly with examples and ask questions.

Thanks Fekko. Smile

After digging through my wardrobe I found the perfect dress that I had thought would be too small. I was delighted with myself. Ds was up or in with me most of the night, so I was bleary eyed this morning going though my tights and not delighted to find every nude pair of tights laddered. Slight panic, but I managed to appropriately funk up the dress with opaques and good shoes.

I purposely didn't put on the dress til I was walking out the door so the kids couldn't get their breakfast all over it (evidence of ability in strategic planning). So, obviously the zip broke as I put it on me. Zip completely fucked guess I was right about it not really fitting. I thought dh was going to cry for me. I was not a happy camper but dragged out something clean and left in 10 mins flat!

After getting lost on my way there (thank god I left a 20min cushion), the meeting went really well and everyone was really lovely. And wearing jeans.

Hoping to get the finalised job offer next week Smile.

As my Nana used to say, may the harm of the year go with the day.

I was going to say that from my experience everyone wears jeans in a slightly tedious I’m so important I don’t have to dress up kind of of a way. I’m pleased it went well.

Hopefully not with French cuffs (yikes!).

Glad it went well and have my fingers crossed. Now you just need to buy a new work wardrobe...
