What Are Your Go-to Outfits?

So, I am a classic dresses that has moved to the boring side. I wear pretty much the same thing with slight variations (skinny jeans, v-cneck top, ankle boots). Also I don't have much time or mental bandwidth to put into styling "outfits." So just want to know about everyone else? What are your go-to things that you wear and you know you would look good? What do you wear when you have nothing to wear?

I have a few go-tos because, although I love the idea of having a signature look, the reality is, I get bored.

For lazy days: Autograph girlfriend jeans with a slightly oversized jumper with a deep v neck (love Celtic and Co at the moment) and ankle boots. So probably not much different from you! I use jewelry to make it a bit more interesting.

For work the current favourite is: narrow leg, ankle length trousers with a tailored jacket over my husband's Ramones T shirt. (He's given it to me - he just won't admit it) and brogues. Obviously the T shirt depends on what I'm doing but normally it's fine.

It used to be a heavy duty below the knee tube skirt with a slouchy jumper, opaques and ankle boots. I still quite like it and wear it sometimes but, like I say, I get bored.

In summer I mostly wear a variation on floppy trousers, silk shirt and brogues and imagine I'm Katharine Hepburn.

Thanks Flo! Great ideas. Where was that tube skirt from? I had something like that but after a few washes it go stretched quite badly.

I'm not sure who's selling them at the moment but the last couple I had were from Mint Velvet and Kettlewell - both last autumn.
The best I ever had were from Whistles and Me and Em - don't think they do them any more but worth looking out for second hand.
I only bought double layer. I tried a couple of cheaper versions e.g. H&M but as you've found, they always lost their shape and/or bobbled.

Work -
Gap slim cut black trousers, black t-shirt, black jacket, ankle boots
Tube skirt, scoop neck black top, jacket, ankle boots

Play -
Either a black jumper dress with opaques and ankle boots or black skinnies with a jumper and ankle boots.

I like ankle boots!

I've just bought this tube skirt, and it's lovely. You can fiddle about with the length.

Am currently on maternity leave but for work I was a pencil skirt blouse and heels girl. Or sometimes skinny trousers tshirt jacket heels.

Now I’m on leave it’s skinny jeans, ankle or knee high boots slouchy jumper. Or some sort of shirt.

Today I’m wearing a denim shirt, leopard print stretch jersey tube skirt tights and my uggs. Sunday comfort.

I also have and really like this although it's looser fitting.

My go to is an a-line skirt with a roll neck tucked in. Boring but I have so many variations & at least it's flattering!

Work:
Topshop black cigarette trousers, Boden or Gap fitted shirts with quirky patterns, Pure Collection cropped cashmere jumpers, ankle boots or converse depending on how much running around I’m doing.
Weekend:
Topshop Skinny Jamie Jeans, stripe tops from Uniqlo, Whistles, Jigsaw etc... Ankle boots, converse or Uggs.

Out:
Skinny jeans (again) with lace blouses from Topshop, Gap or H&M, Dune leopard print heels.
Occasionally a floral midi dress from New Look or Zara.

I definitely stick to certain looks. I use jewellery and scarves to change it around a bit.

I’m breastfeeding so have moved the dresses to one side so now, for work, I’m loving dark green velvet peg leg trousers at the moment with a white shirt tucked in and heels, for play I’m surgically attached to a loose cut, high necked Breton jumper/t shirt from the white company last year, which I wear with burgundy skinny jeans and trainers. I really love my Levi’s 501 CT jeans (like 501s but a more modern cut - got in America and I don’t know if they’re sold here) but they’re really flattering and I wear them with chunky jumpers and loose v neck t shirts tucked into a plaited leather belt.

Weekends are pretty much always ankle boots (DMs), jeans and a slouchy jumper, although I do have a pleated maxi skirt to mix things up a bit.

Work I wear a lot of dresses with flat ankle boots at this time of year. My skater dresses are beginning to feel a bit dated but I also wear shirt dresses or my faithful Hush Tara (also have a ruched skirt from Kettlewell that has a similar feel that is worn with silk blouses or boxy jumpers). My current favourite dress is a COS kimono style dress that I wear with a contrasting belt. I also wear wide legged woolen trousers with silk blouses and trainers. Or ankle skimmers with snazzy socks, brogues and slouchy top.

I have a few different “looks” which I have multiple variations on.

Wide-leg, cropped trousers, slightly cropped fitted jumper, lacy tights underneath, black StanSmiths or brogues. Currently loving some navy cord culotte type trews from Urban Outfitters.

Black skinny jeans, blouse, fitted jumper, Chelsea or biker boots.

A-line short-ish skirt, fitted jumper (crew or polo neck), opaque tights, Chelsea boots.

In summer I wear a lot of midi dresses and skirts, but I can’t make them work in winter, which is annoying.

My go-to shops are Topshop, Whistles and Warehouse mainly, plus All Saints for jeans.

Mine are Boden cashmere, bought in the sale or when there's a rare 30% off. M&S sized up would work as well. At the other end of the scale I have a slouchy sweatshirt from ASOS that I sized down that cost me a whole £6.50. And I've just sent back this because it was too big.

Mint velvet are good for slouchy jumpers as well.

You all sound terribly stylish!
I am short so dresses are my go to. Simple scandi style - cotton in summer, wool in winter. BIrkensocks in summer. Ankle boots and tights in winter. Always have a scarf and have a thing for delicate jewellery currently - and try to ignore the chunky stuff I have in my collection.
Post menopausal so natural fibres are a must. Acrylic and polyester turn me into a pool of sweat.

Thanks everyone, taking note. The hush skirt seems a really nice replacement for my skinnies, so will order that.

ginorwine, I get my summer dresses from a New Zealand company called Kow Tow. The clothes are made with beautiful quality organic cotton -jersey or poplin. They are made very ethically and have no zips as the designer can't find ethical enough zips. They close with buttons and belts. The designer lives 6 months in NZ and 6 months in U.K.
Their clothes are relatively expansive - if you convert to NZ dollars it is about twice no. British ponds ( fo 120 dollars about 60 BP). In sales can get lovely dresses for 120-150 NZ dollars. I have about 8 dresses on rapid rotation and they last years so good value.
The cotton in winter is heavier. For work I have always brought from another NZ company called Chalky Digits who after 25 yrs are going to stop. I love Cos but buying and shipping can be a bit dodgy because variation in sizes.
PM me if want more info
