Nose piercing

I really want my nose pierced but also I'm afraid it might make me look a bit try-hard. Like the time my hairdresser persuaded me to have a swooshy turquoise swoop in my hair and I felt like a middle aged woman trying to recapture something long gone. I think they look beautiful... but I'm a terribly conventional mum and maybe they're only for beautiful people who do exciting things...

I'm a conventional mum too although in my youth I was a sexy, alternative chick. My nose was pierced back then and I loved it.

The hole never closed over fully so I gritted my teeth and re-pierced it myself 18 months ago. I'm so glad I did, I love my little sparkly nose studs.

Sexy alternative chick 20 years ago here had it repierced last year when I was 40 (not a mid life crisis) & I have little sparkly studs, I buy mine from body jewellery shop online & have lots of colours & some flowers ones for non work. I've since changed job & its not been a problem at all, nobody has mentioned it & probably assume I've had it for years.

Doesn't hurt. Just like flicking your nose really hard.
It hurts if it gets infected though.

It's the thought of the pain that puts me off, I'm not good with needles.

I have pierced my own ears several times with £1 disposable guns from eBay though, and I had my cartilage done at the top of my ear, it can't hurt more than that?

If you use some emla cream you won't feel it at all.

It hurts when you get the stud caught on something and half pull it out. They are a pain to heal and you might get the dreaded "bump" on it, which takes some clearing up.

Having said that, it's my favourite piercing and was much less hassle than ear cartilage piercings.

I've got mine done - and I'm 38!

I wear a teeny tiny stud in it, which is hardly noticeable (I work in a very stuffy industry). I wear a hoop in it on nights out. Amazon is good for very fine/thin nose jewellery.

Fliss I have zero pain threshold and it was fine. It stings rather than hurts IYSWIM? Don't wear mascara when you go because it can make your eyes water when they do it. Bit tender afterwards for about a week and then it was fine.

Got mine done when I was 26 and it's been in and out every few months. Put it back in again today for a while. I love it, tiny sparkly thing. And I'm 45 and no intention of stopping yet. In fact my co-nose piercee friend and I decided today it's time we got something else pierced. Just trying to decide what.

A side effect of piercing. They can be infections or granuloma. Keep it clean, don't fiddle and follow the cleaning instructions- most piercings are fine.
I had a daith piercing last year as I wanted something a bit different. I love it and really pleased I had it done.

It can be infective OR inflammatory.. if it's infective it has pus, if not then it's clear fluid. It is caused by irritation - e.g. if the stud pulls a bit while healing or catches on something. Alternatively, if you touch it or clean it badly it can be a pus bump.

You can make them go away.. I personally like to use tea tree oil and chamomile bag soaks, but best to take the advice of a piercer as some people don't condone tea tree.

I got my nose pierced to celebrate my 20th birthday and I still have it now mid forties and I'm not even remotely trendy! ( although I used to be quite 'alternative'). Small sparkly diamanté stud in a variety of colours. I lose them a lot so I bought a whole tray from EBay really cheaply. You don't have a 'holder' on the inside like you do with earrings so they can fall out easily especially when you're drying your face and catch it on the towel. I find the L-shaped ones best as they don't give you a nosebleed if you get bumped on the nose.

Catching them on a towel is the worst downside to nose piercings! Not going to lie, that's always the reason I take it out for a bit

I'm thinking about getting my nose pierced too, I'm 33. I had it done twice as a teenager. I was told after the first time by an Indian girl that it was on the wrong side - whatever that means but took it out anyway and got the other nostril done the next day. I have no idea know what the 'right' side actually is/was now thinking about it or if it indeed matters at all! I ended up losing studs all the time so eventually it healed up. Studs were more expensive then too.

I found it quite painful, more so than the naval piercing I had done a few years later. Obviously not too painful as I'm considering a third time! My nostrils seem thick so that might be factor.

I'm 37 - had mine done last year. Small sparkly stud, switched for an even smaller stud once healed. Love it! It never occurs to me to change it and I've never snagged it on anything. I'm pretty dull and conservative too!
