Hi all, I have very dry skin and it feels tight most of the time . Have tried body shop vitamin E range, clinique dramatically different with some degree of success in the past. Currently using Nip and Fab dragons blood serum and Garnier Moisture bomb but it does not seem to be doing much. Any recommendations would be gratefully received. TIA

Aveeno is good. Or Double Base, although that can feel quite oily.

I use M&S pure marine serum and cream which someone on here recommended - cheaper than the high end stuff but I love it!

Epaderm for dry skin eczema is great, it can feel a bit heavy but if your skin is super dry it will absorb it reasonably quickly - use at night if you find it too greasy for the day. I wash my face in lukewarm water first (no soap, never soap!) and then put it on while my skin is still quite damp. It locks the moisture in. Have just posted about it in another thread, weirdly!

Coconut oil. The type you cook with. I have horrible psoriasis and eczema and it is the only thing that works when I'm in the middle of an episode.

Really dry skin here too. I use a face oil at night and I love the embryolisse moisturiser range (boots online or in bigger stores) I also use their serum (it's not called that its similar though) under my foundation. Foundation is body shop one for dry skin.

I also use the neal yard frankincense night cream sometimes.

Sometime when it's really dry the aloe Vera Vaseline works a treat

What is your cleansing (and toning if you do that) routine? Foaming cleansers, hot water, scrubs and alcohol-based toners can all strip oil and moisture from your skin. Perhaps try using a cleansing oil or balm instead.

Something else that has helped my dry skin is changing my shampoo and conditioner to ones without detergents/ sulphates. That on its own has made a big difference to my skin. I realised that when I washed my hair I was effectively also washing my face with a harsh soap, when the shampoo ran off my hair and over my face (and the rest of me). No detergent does mean no silicones in hair products (because mild shampoo won’t wash them out) but my hair is softer and shinier for the change anyway.

In case it helps, here is my routine. My skin is (was!) dry, easily becomes dehydrated, and prone to sensitivity.

Evening:
If I have makeup to take off I double-cleanse using micellar water first - maybe a couple of times a week
Cleanse with rosehip oil, massaging plenty it into my face and neck then gently removing it with a warm, damp flannel cloth
Smooth a few drops of the same oil over my clean face
(Rosehip oil contains vitamins E, C, D and beta-carotene, so I don’t generally apply a separate serum).

Morning:
Wash face under the shower, turning the water down from hot to warm-ish while I wash my face and hair.
Gently pat dry with a soft towel
Moisturise (at the moment I’m using Dr Hauschka Rose Day Cream)
Sunscreen
Leave to sink in, then apply makeup if I’m going to wear some that day.

Different things work for different people though – some people are sensitive to rosehip oil, while I can’t use the coconut oil recommended above because it gives me clogged pores and, eventually, spots.

I love Antipodes Avocado night cream which is seriously moisturising when nothing else works.
