I have battery at the moment cos of no charging point in the bathroom ...

It's recharged via mini usb. So the toothbrush while charging sits on a small circle with a small spoke attached. It doesn't come with a plug, but is the same as you need for phone charger/kindle charger. You could even just plug it into your computer to charge it because it's usb.
I charged it the first day and it's been going since. It can apparently go 30 days without being charges again.

I think it would do for kids as well. My sons tried it once just after I got it and liked it. The 2 minute timer means I can be sure they brush long enough.
I'm eyeing up 2 more on payday.

It arrived in time for bed time and was a huge hit with DD11 especially. She brushed her teeth for 6 minutes, which is a massive improvement and came out of the bathroom all happy. I think if she continues like that, I'll buy a couple more base units too as DD9 also liked it. I've just done mine and I can feel the difference. I really need to get serious about this brushing and dental hygiene thing now. Thanks again!

There's a travel version of the waterpik that might be easier to start with.

By the way, I don't work for Fairywill the toothbrush people. I'm a long time Mumsnetter and all I was doing was suggesting a good value sonic toothbrush.

If you search amazon for 'portable oral irrigator' there's a few that come up, even a usb charging one... quite tempted by that actually.
I have the panasonic ew dj10 I think. It was good, though the battery charging is irritating. I didn't have the soace or money to invest in a water pik but that portable one is pretty good.

I have a waterp1k with a tank which is better in someways because the size of the tank means no need to refill

I also have a rechargeable panas0nic which has the advantage that you dont need to be near a power source to use it, but I have to refill it to do all my teeth

me too, my teeth are very tightly packed together, although luckily straight thanks to orthodontics as a child.

Water flossing rinses out particles/debris and (imo) removes more comprehensively tape does, it would probably be good to also floss too if you could (?)

I used to sometimes get a bit of gum bleeding when I brushed but that is far rarer now.
I know you have to lay out £50 and it doesnt replace the need for regular dental check ups but I feel it would pay for itself many times over in fee's for actual dental work

Do your dentists all support the water flosser? I did have a waterpik but didn't find it as good as the brushes. My dentist always said that you needed to be sure to massage the gums, not just remove food and brushes (the largest size brush that fits between your teeth) could do that most effectively.

He made the very valid point that if dentists and hygienists supported them they would be using them over and above the brushes and floss in their surgery.

Gum issues are truly miserable. I reckon that waterpik plus brush would probably be the best approach but I'm sighing as I write it as really who has the energy?!!!

I find that episodes of toothache followed by financially ruinous dental treatment give me the energy to be obsessive about oral hygiene

I was far more lackadaisical as a youngster!
