So I bought a pair of culottes and I need your help

As the title says I bought a pair of Zara queue-lottes in their jumble sale and I think I am flipping gorgeous in them. Well, hardly, but I quite like them.

But my problem is boots/shoes. Nothing I have suits. My ankle boots are too low on the leg, my shoes don't look right with opaques and culottes.

Do I need to buy higher-up-the-leg boots or what else can I wear? And if I do need to buy, any suggestions??

Many TIAs.

I think it depends on the culottes and the length. I am a HUGE fan of them! I have a mid calf length navy pair and I wear them with strappy heels (going out), loafers (afternoon/ lunch) and supergas/ adidas (shopping).

I have a full length gorgeous black pair which I wear with heels mainly.

Do you have a picture of yours?

I am having exactly this problem, only I've had mine too long to take back. I saw a couple of ladies looking stylish in culottes this afternoon but they were both wearing them with bare legs and stan smith type trainers. Just not sure I can face that in this weather. And my legs are hideous and blue.

Knee length boots are the closest I've got but look a bit frumpy on me. I read an article suggesting fishnet tights and ankle boots, but my only suitable ankle boots have a glittery heel and combined with fishnets looks a bit bonkers.

I'm going to wait till spring and have another go unless anyone has a brilliant idea?

Stanley - do you wear with bare legs or tights?

These are along the lines of the loafer and trainers looks with the shorter style. I accept that my calves get chilly as I am not a fan of how they look with longer style boots (I think they actually need a bit of skin on show) but I'm liking layering and oversized scarves and knits at the moment so I'm generally warm enough.

Yes birdy, crossed posts! I agree that boots turn them frumpy. On me anyway I think they look best with some skin on show.

I think these are the ones I bought. In navy. They're a little longer on me. I'm 5'6", but I've short legs and the trainer look, while I love it, makes me look a lot bit stumpy. The culottes are light enough to be summer-wearable too - shoe and skin will be fine then.

Will look at the fishnets, not sure they're for me.

I am old enough to have worn them first time around but for the life of me I can't remember what I wore with them. Probably loafers. My, how times changeGrin

Nope, they're not my culottes. But similar. Sorry I didn't buy a black pair too.

What's this worry I have with shoes?? Grin

I have 2 pairs, one black one pleather (??!!) and I feel like a fox in them. I wear some lovely close to the ankle black Chelsea boots with a Cuban heel. I think the key with the boots is they have to hug your ankles. However I have just bought some white leather trainers in the la redoute sale and I have high hopes they will work well. I also wear with black stilettos when I dkn'y have to walk far. Hope that helps!

I only wear opaque tights btw hate sheer ones so I wear either with black tights or s block colour but mainly just black. With trainers I will just wear pop socks. I think I look foxy all the same ;)

I bought some in M&S recently. I wear them with coloured opaques and loafers.

I have some (above calf/lower knee length) and tend to wear them in the winter with high, skinny boots that show the shape of my lower leg

I've tried ankle boots but felt like there was too much going on

I love culottes. I do need a heel though otherwise looks odd on me. I wear them with

Tall boots like these. Something about the shape just works.

Hasbeen type sandals in summer

Interesting block heeled ankle boots

  • snakeskin print etc. they come quite high up and are close to my ankle as pp said. Shows some skin but not much.

Thank you all. I agree, my ankle boots just don't look right.

Has anyone seen any close-fitting calf/half-way-up-the-leg boots on your travels?

I wear culottes quite a lot. I wear them with tubular defiant adidas trainers or roshe run nike ankle boots and knee length socks to cover my bare legs.

On my top half i normally wear an oversize plain sweatshirt layered over running tops with thumbholes or a crop tshirt over a vest.

I like it :)
