Off to Selfridges to buy foundation

I'm going to browse, get samples and hopefully buy the perfect base.
Yellowy, middle aged skin. I'm looking for a youthful glow rather than shine and need something with staying power.

Which brands would you recommended?

I don't wear it (foundation) but my DD has a yellow toned skin.
She uses Urban Decay and KatVonD (both available from large Debenhams , not sure if Selfridges stock it )

Right I'll strike off Charlotte Tilbury and look at those three recommendations.
I thought they'd be begging for me to try their products. I had visions of a face of many colours then deciding after wandering round the store.

Oh they'll try and seduce you with wonderful products that will literally transform you... but be strong.

I nearly bought a moisturiser... until she dropped that it was £70. ((Sigh))

Good luck getting samples, the sales assistant at Nars looked down her nose at me in John Lewis and said "we don't do samples" but she could book me an appointment for £30. Put me off asking any other brand, all I wanted was to try and find something moisturising which wouldn't clog on dry areas of my skin. I am not prepared to fork out £40 just to try a product.

Chantecaille future skin is one of my all time favourites, Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua is brilliant and glowy but perhaps not as buildable for coverage. Heard v good things about Suqqu (exclusive to selfridges I think) which has more coverage. For glow I would try some primers too - my beloved Dior one has been discontinued but there was a good thread on here in the last few days on primers. If I can find it I will post a link. Love a little trip to Selfridges. Enjoy and tell us what gems you find!

Clarins are generally good with samples, and I like their foundation. I'm middle-aged also. Staying power of the one I use is so-so, but then I do have oily t-zone and tendancy to rub at face during the day.

I like Bobbi brown, started using that in the summer after having my makeup done there. I'm not sure that they give samples but they put the makeup on me and I bought it another day after deciding I was happy with it. Mine is long last even wear finish which I'm really pleased with. I use their illuminating powder with it. Good luck!

Thanks for the comments, you're all mentioned several brands I've never even heard off.
Would SpaceNK be a better bet? I'm open to suggestions.

Googling suggests Giorgio Armani and Dior would be good to look at too, plus I'm keen to try Doublewear light.
Long lasting, dewy, perfect colour match, possibly doesn't even exist.

I have Suqqu foundation from Selfridges.
It is really nice and gives good cover whilst being light and dewy at the same time. The assistants were really helpful as well
My favourite foundation at the moment is Face Atelier from either Cult Beauty or Amazon. Lots of colours to choose from but no samples really so you will be guessing to get correct colour match

take some little pots with you (Muji do some small travel pots) and decant some squirts into to try at home. Ive done this in the past and have had some from the SA but fuck em.
Suqqu is excellent. 10 if you're fair skinned and 15 if you want a warmer tone in the original (big pot) foundation.
Marc Jacobs foundation is my new love. Not sure if they have it in Selfridges but they do in JL on Ox St. Neutral beige and Neutral golden are good mid toned yellow based shades.

Chanel perfection lumiere velvet. Lovely natural soft velvet finish. No shine.

Clinique will give you 10 days of foundation free as a sample and have just launched new yellower times in their newish one. Is it lasting perfection or something it's called?

I like YSL Touche Eclat foundation. It's does a good yellow based colour (I am also light olive/yellow toned) and it's glowy but not shiny. Medium coverage.

For Chanel, I find it oxidises on my face (goes darker through the day) and also I find their yellows shades still too pink. On my face they go slightly orangey as they oxidise. Just a thought. It's definitely worth a try though as the texture is nice.

You could try QVC, they sell lots of brands and you can buy, try for 30 days and get a refund if you don't like it. You have to pay to return and you don't get your original postage back but it's still a good way to try something

Clinique superbalanced silk and Estée Lauder double wear light are lovely. I can always get samples in my local boots.

Charlotte Tilbury do samples, from those I thought their foundation gave good coverage and staying power but overall too yellow for me (so maybe good for you!)

I started using Estee Lauder Doublewear in November, (the full on one not the light version), and it is AMAZING. Great coverage and stays on all day even through dd's swimming lesson. I'm a total convert and can't believe I haven't tried before.

Bobbi Brown (need to go to house of Fraser tho) lovely light foundation & always lovely ladies one in Meadowhall was very pushy I would resist buying £25 makeup brushes for applying the foundation can't help re yellow tones tho. enjoy xx

I use Sisley and Dior - the colours and texture are just right for me. Not the cheapest, but they last ages.
