Is this too "officey" for posh dinner?

Excuse state of mirror, bed, floor etc!

We're going for posh dinner with friends tonight. My go to black dress is now too big due to recent weight loss so I need to find something else!

I'm set on the skirt & heels I think but not sure on the top. Other options are long sleeve black blouse or loose dark blue vest top.

Please help!!!

Post the other two top options with the skirt so we can make a choice

It is rather officey but it depends on how you accessorise.
I prefer the sound of a vest top with a nice necklace.

All black is the best imo.

The first one is very work wear like.

The black would be improved with some colourful costume jewellery.

Have you any floral or patterned tops?

I don't own anything patterned!!! To be honest the skirt is incredibly daring for me, normally I live in jeans & shapeless things.

I'm edging towards black or vest top at the moment.

Stop faffing and get yourself out to buy yourself something new to celebrate the weight loss Smile

I like the red best.

Just to mix things up

Oh no Trills! Now I've no idea.

Black feels like it's safe to be honest & I won't feel so self conscious!

This is all the nice jewellery I own!

I prefer the red (ish) one but it depends on the accessories. What are your options?

Well done in the weight loss

You're right Temporary I should, I'm hoping to lose another stone though so I've sort of been putting it off. I find shopping really stressful though, DH has had to force me into changing rooms a few times as I've been wearing jeans 3 sizes too big!xx

The red one. I think its the black skirt and shoes thats making it officey. Well done on the weight loss!

Oh no! Should I ditch the skirt then do you think? I really don't have anything else!

Just taken the skirt off & turns out I had it on inside out Blush

All black, by a country mile.
Get some jewellery if you don't want to splash out on new clothes yet.

All black looks lovely, perfect for a posh dinner. Classy but not too try hard, would be nice with necklace in your pic too.

And some non-officey, non-court shoes Wink. Maybe some strappy shoes.

Right black it is, with the blue necklace or the pearls?

Thank you everyone.

You're right I should get some different shoes, I have those in black, pink & nude as they're so comfy!

The all black with either nude heels or fun colour heels - prefer the non blue necklace - have you got a fun clutch to add to it?

MyShinyThing · 20/08/2016 13:50

Hadn't thought about different coloured shoes! Thank you, will try them out when I'm getting ready.

I have a black clutch bag! Can you see a theme in my wardrobe Blush
