Use hand cream, your hands will age a long time before your face

What's yours?

I've actually only just started implementing your best bit, I'm ashamed to say! I just forget, which is weird for someone who is very into nails, I'm sure.

The obvious one would be always take your make up off before bed, but I think to never overpluck, or even just pluck, your brows is a good one. So easy to overdo it and they don't always recover. My friend now really regrets trying to mimic Gwen Stefani in 2000 and spends a fortune on brow products.

Dust a little bit of powder on t-zone both before and after foundation.
Def helps keep my oily skin matt.

'Starch and an iron, cresset', said Phyllis diC, when I asked why she always looked bandbox perfect.

White stuff etc is for invisible women.

Wear what ever the fuck you like, one day you'll be dead

Nothing will make more difference to your appearance than getting your eyebrows professionally threaded/waxed/plucked, even if you then keep it up at home on your own. The right brow shape can change your whole face.

There's no way you're a 36C. Come with me tomorrow to a proper bra shop and we'll get you fitted.

No matter what you think of the way you look now, in ten years time you'll wish you appreciated it more.

Wear tighter clothes (my sister - she was right)

Don't overpluck brows ever

Treat your feet well and don't ruin your feed with bad shoes. My neighbour has just had surgery for her bunions - out of work for 6 weeks, unable to bear any weight, thought she might have an infection etc.

Iron everything (I don't but I recognise that it is a good idea)

Dress for the figure you've got not the figure you want!

Wear sunscreen ().

The bigger the boobs the more expensive the scaffolding.

For important occasions (such as my wedding) decent corsetry (such as these www.vollers-corsets.com/) is easier to fit a dress to than dieting (& will improve your posture).

Waterproof mascara.

No ones arms are long enough to take a decent selfie.

Use a cobbler to keep well-loved shoes & boots going almost indefinitely.

Always check your back view in a mirror before going out - a outfit that looks great from the front down can be let down by sags, bags or escaping bits from behind.

Always make sure the leggings you buy are properly opaque and not just footless tights masquerading as leggings!

All fashion looks dated in a few decades, so wear what you like / looks good on you. A person happy with their own style will mostly look good.

Classic pieces are truly timeless so invest only in those. High fashion should never cost more than £50.

Cheap shoes are more obvious than cheap clothes.

My favourite adage is the famous Helena Rubinstein quote, 'There are no ugly women, only lazy ones'.

A bit harsh and troubling from a feminist perspective... Nonetheless the realisation that I can make myself look and feel 1000 times better by just putting a little effort in has been truly life changing.

Years ago with friends in a nightclub loo. We got chatting to a woman who worked for Clinique and had fantastic skin. We were young and it seemed extortionate compared to what we used to pay for our skincare products. She questioned what we'd paid for our outfits and how often we wore them, and then pointed out that we wore our faces every single day. Food for thought.

My own advice would be that whatever else you skimp on, spend on decent shoes and bras. You can make the cheapest outfit look great with the right foundations but a shit bra or shoes with a posh frock will still look shit.

I used to work in retail, and had 75% limited discount on work "uniform" and 30% on everything else. My manager told me to invest well in my "uniform" and spend the rest on accessories - so invest in the basics such as trousers/skirts/dresses and you can change the look depending on what you wear with it. That was 25 years ago and I still live by that rule!

Skin is only matte when you're dead
I took this as "don't shove powder everywhere" so I only powder the T zone area so it looks more natural and you still have some glow

It's arms or legs, never both. Choose what to expose/highlight.

Unless you're sunbathing. Then discard your clothes and revel at will Smile

I will definitely be finding a spot or two tomorrow! Too tired to get up now! Blush

  • a beauty therapist told me that my skin just wasn't suited to wearing foundation every day. This was after years of trying different brands and still getting horrific acne. I stopped with the foundation except when I'm going out and whilst my skin is t flawless I only ever get the occasional breakout during my period.

I also lurked on the bra intervention threads and measuring myself properly and getting bras that fit has been a revelation.

Definitely spending on a really good bra is crucial. Had a friend who spent a fortune on a stunning outfit for her son's wedding, and on the day ruined it by wearing a saggy old bra underneath, which made it look dreadful. Still trying to persuade her that underwires are essential!
