Make up done at which counter?

My friend and I are in pretty urgent need of re-learning how to do make up. I'm 43, skin not bad but I do suffer with dark circles and open pores. I just can't seem to get my head around what ageing is doing to my skin and my make up never looks great.

My friend is 37, has much better skin than me IMO but probably has even less of a clue than me!

Can you recommend which counter we should go to for advice and a makeover? We only have a Debenhams locally so that narrows down our options. Both of us fully prepared to spend money if we find products we really like.

I'd suggest walking around and looking at the faces of the sales assistants!

When you see a look you like, stop and ask for a makeover I've see both the best and worst makeovers done at mac. My favourite brands at the moment are armani and nars. I am a 20+ year devotee of the Sisley brand but its very exxy. Bobbi brown probably also worth a look at.

If you get a good base sorted (really get a great one, this is worth splurging on) then don't rule out cheap outstanding brands like makeuprevolution from super drug for eyes, blush, highlighters etc. Their urban decay and Hourglass dupes are good, and buying cheap let's you have guiltless fun experimenting.

I'm about the same age and the Bobbi Brown counter were really good.

I was going to say the same as a pp; have a look at the counter assistants make up and decide based on that!

Having said that, I've had a few make overs done at different Clinique counters and have always been happy.

You could also watch some of Lisa Elderidge's videos on YouTube, she has tutorials for different skin types etc.

I had one at a Lancôme counter a while ago and was really pleased. I've stuck with their Visionnaire foundation ever since.

I have always thought Chanel was good, but i always look at the make up of the counter assistant too!

For dark circles, Bobbi Brown as they have those correctors.

Depends on brand, department and how busy they are. I'd not expect to get individual attention for 30 mins if I walked in without notice on a Saturday, for example. For the expensive brands you may also be charged for the service but given vouchers redeemable if you purchase. Make sure you know and agree the deal before they start.
