Tell me about moisturisers that would help my dry skin with sore spots?

I have mild rosacea which isn't too bad and I get painful spots round my jawline. They're not squeezable but they hurt. My skincare routine is very very basic - I swim 5 times a week so it's just a rub with shower gel after that, and on non-swimming days I use a cheap face wash cream and hot cloth. Then a bit of Nivea Soft. I don't wear makeup so don't bother washing before bed (life's too short and I spend 12 hours a week well maintained swimming pools so figure that's enough for my poor skin!)

I've been given antibiotics for my face in the past but because they take a few months to work and make your skin much more sensitive to the sun I don't use them as it's always either going to be summer or we have an Autumn holiday on the horizon and I don't want to burn.

What with Mother's Day there seem to be a lot of fancy moisturisers about at the moment and I wondered if any of them would help? Presumably not an acid one if my skin's dry to begin with, but I don't really know where to start.

I used to use Boots Protect and Perfect which I think did help with little wrinkles but I kept forgetting to put it on.

Any thoughts??

Ok if you have possible rosacea bad dry skin then you definitely should NOT be rubbing shower gel on it! Also Nivea soft is very fragranced which isn't going to help at all either.
You need a gentle cleanser (non foaming) preferably not washed off under shower water either but removed with a soft flannel at the sink if possible then you need to apply a rich fragrance free moisturiser. Even if you don't wear make up you really should be cleansing again in the evening to remove all the debris, sweat etc from the day then apply your moisturiser again. I'm not suggesting anything that takes ages or anything fancy just a cleanser and a moisturiser. What's your budget?

Have you tried just using coconut oil on your face?

Or for something more fancy, I absolutely love neals yard rose facial oil

Indecisivejo I guess I'd spend up to £30ish on a tub of something if it made a difference? The problem is with all the swimming, I'm already taking shampoo/conditioner and shower gel with me for afterwards and I'm quite often in a rush to get going at the end (I'm a swimming teacher and usually have to dash off to get my kids). So no time to take a flannel and do a wash at the sink.

Grudgingly agree with you about the evenings though Blush

And Branleuse I've considered an oil but don't really understand them, won't it just make my pillow all gross?

Ok I would suggest dermalogica ultracalming cleanser which can be rinsed off under shower when swimming then in evenings removed with a flannel at a sink, it's very gentle and versatile and can be used over eyes too! Then apply dermalogica intensive moisture balance. That's it done!
Both of these can be bought in large sizes online which works out better value. I order from beautythings.co.uk and pure-beauty.co.uk is also good.

Drenching my skin with Physiogel for dry, irritated and sensitive skin works for me. It's also very inexpensive.

Nivea soft contains mineral oil which may be making your spots worse. I would drop that and wash your face with soap.
eucerin 5% urea is great for dry skin and hasn't blocked my pores but I only use a little and never on my most which is prone to blackheads!

Have a look at the Avene range in Boots.

I have rosacea and the thought of putting shower gel on my face horrifies me!
I use the gentle cleanser in the shower and then the skin recovery cream.

Thanks everyone, will have a look at everything you've suggested. I feel like I need to stand up for Nivea though - I've tried quite a few moisturisers over the years (mostly free sample ones) and quite a lot leave my skin still feeling tight which Nivea doesn't do at all :) Although I'll accept that it's probably not the most up to date thing I could be using!

I used to use Nivea as it was one I didn't react to. Switch to the Green People sensitive (or whatever it's called, the grey one) 24hr cream and it's so good!!!

I also now use La Roche Posay micellar water to take off make up. Both been great for my skin.

Ok I've got a plan. I've got about £90 in Boots points so was going to get the Avene stuff with those, but since the coconut oil is about £2.50 it seems a bit crazy not to give that a go first?? So will whack that on and see what happens, and try very very hard to break by shower gel habit! (For the record I don't use shower gel on my face at home, I use a cream face wash but the 5 times a week I'm swimming it really seems a lot of faff Blush

Thanks again for all your advice it's been v v helpful xx

I've been using Madara regenerating night cream.

I love it

I have rosacea too - I'd say step away from the hot flannel!

I use Simple make up remover to cleanse and Neutrogena Moisture for sensitive skin for moisturizer. Cheap and works well.

I actually find the antibiotics are really good for the chin zits

Make up has SPF or if going in sun I use facial SPF
