What to wear on TV?

I've got an audition for a TV quiz show which I'm quite excited about but I am short (5'3") and fat (20) and very embarrassed by this.

The backdrop will be dark with the usual neon blue/red colours you get on game shows. I'll be behind a podium but they do cut away to full-body shots of the contestants.

I was thinking of going for something large, loose and black that would completely hide me but I ordered a couple of things from asos and now I'm not so sure, I look a bit of a sack.

I know not to wear stripes or small patterns but has anyone got any advice or suggestions?

My usual style is very relaxed, tunic and leggings, supermarket budget-level. Don't tend to wear heels unless just a small wedge.

I don't mind wearing something outside of my usual style if it will look better on television, but would still like to be reasonably comfortable so I can think straight and answer the questions!

Exciting! I'd go for black trousers and a tailored shirt in a plain colour, no pattern. Something that isn't too flowy but sort of skims over any lumps and bumps.

Make sure it's comfy. You might get nervous and you don't want to be fidgety AND pulling your top up or hem down.
I'd probably wear leggings/black jeggings and a nice silky viscosy top.
Good luck - hope you win!

Yes I'd definitely recommend wearing something black unless you are super skinny! DH and I were involved in a TV programme and I couldn't believe how much bigger we both looked!

Good luck - how exciting Smile

Thank you! Yep definitely going for black but with a bit of colour on the front to warm it up. Hopefully my dazzling wit and intellect will distract from the width of my bottom Grin

I'd go for navy rather than black, you can add red or cream to break it up a bit.

Could you wear an interesting necklace (like a colourful, bigger one?) to draw attention so that people will look at your fab necklace and not notice the size of your tummy for example?

Don't wear anything bright red. Go for any other colour for your accessories. Good luck!

Technically you are also supposed to avoid black and white. Could you go for a dark charcoal shade or dark navy instead? It's much more flattering on camera.

Also if the background is dark, you want to avoid looking like a floating head. So if you feel more comfortable in darker clothes, then go for it, but don't go totally black-black.

I filmed for a quiz show earlier this year. I wanted to be comfy and not have sweat patches (I get dreadfully sweaty when nervous Grin) so I wore black ankle boots, blue skinnyish jeans and a black sweatshirt with a big fluffy rainbow-coloured heart on the front! (They asked us to bring FIVE different outfits though - what a nightmare Confused)

It hasn't aired yet though so may have looked awful Grin

Good luck, I found it loads of fun.
