I have them but haven't worn them, something about not using ST's with wings which I found offputting because like yourself my periods are very heavy.

They lie in my underwear drawer unworn and unloved!

Sorry to awaken an old thread but I've just ordered some Thinx knickers. They are not the same as the diarydolls, (which look really good!) but diarydolls need to be worn with your 'normal protection'. Thinx, on the other hand, say you don't need any protection, they absorb the blood on their own. If that's true then I think that's an exciting step forward... I've got them for my teenage daughter. I bought the 'little tinkle' icon sneeze incontinence ones for me to try. I will report back as to how we get on with them.

I've come back to report on the Icon incontinence knickers. I'm 51, post-menopausal, sometimes "tinkle" a bit (that's their word for it in their advertising!) There follows TMI, but that's what mumsnet is for:

They are really good, I like them. I give them a gold star They look like normal pants so I was happy to be changing into them in the communal changing room and not faffing about with pads. They hold up to 5 teaspoons of urine at a time... the gusset is made up of several thin layers of special material which seems to work by wicking the liquid away quickly and the material is a new type that dries very fast. So the gusset is slightly thicker than the rest of it (quite like normal knickers!) They arrived in 5 days from the US. Quite expensive, but I've stopped buying the pads from Tesco now. And it feels great to NOT wear a pad EVERY day. I'm convinced the fact of not wearing /sitting on a bulky and lumpy pad has actually helped me wee a bit less.

As for Thinx, I bought 3 pairs for my daughter, who is grossed and weirded out. She hadn't used them when I asked her and says she can't imagine having to wash them, ick. I suppose as we get older we are less grossed out by it all but I hadn't thought of this teen aspect. They do say on their advertising that the blood disappears, which I can believe, as the water content would evaporate away with the special wicking material. I read advice to pick off any solidified clots with toilet paper when you go to the toilet. If I still needed sanpro I would use them in a flash and certainly at night when more accidents occur. What's to lose? I think they must work as the icon ones are great with little gushes, and the Thinx ones would be more for a constant dribble.

The special material in them is black. This can't be seen from the outside (I bought blue, nude and black ones). Now I've washed them probably 20 times and they're still as good as new, I like the black colour - I suppose they might be stained, but it certainly doesn't show.

Has anyone any actual Thinx experience? If DD uses hers and can bring herself to tell me about it, I'll report back again.

I think I want some. The first day of my period is often so heavy I leak through a super tampon and I can't abide pads. These might work.

Thanks OP. I've just ordered the 'SheThinks' pants as I'm sick of ruining my sheets/matress/duvet/nightwear/carpet etc. etc. when my period decides to put in an appearance overnight with no warning at all.

God, I wish they'd invented these years ago; would have saved a lot of embarassment. Only the other day, I got out of my car to use the cashpoint only to discover I'd leaked all over the back of my dress and the seat of my car. Unfortunatley I only noticed when I returned to my car. Good job I have a bit of front and can shrug it off.

Dd has mennorragea & uses diary dolls. They are great & look like normal knickers.

I will be trying these diary dolls as the only pants I can get with a wide enough gusset for pads are sloggis so it's good to find another option.

I have used Thinx for my last 4 cycles & they're fab. I heard about them lurking on this thread actually. I have very heavy periods & they don't leak at all - even overnight. I bought 3 pairs & found that was plenty. You rinse them in cold water first & then put into a cold wash in the machine (no conditioner as it affects absorbancy) & line dry. The rinsing isn't as bad as you might think - takes less than a minute. I usually change around 6.30am when I get up & again around 8pm. Although on a heavier day I might change during the day again too. They mostly stay very dry & you never feel that horrible pad sensation. The last time I used a pad I actually felt more insecure & fearful of leaking.
