Ok, so I've beaten the spots...now what?

Finally, after ten years I've got my cystic acne under control. Yippee party time etc. But, seriously, now what? I'm clueless about "normal" skin care. I'm mid 30s, and have never used proper moisturiser. My skin now has a bit of hyperpigmentation and some minor scarring, but as I'm dark skinned it doesn't look too awful. It feels quite dry around my throat and nose area, luckily I don't really have wrinkles, but you can see that my skin needs help. So help me please!

Marking my place. Hoping my course of antibiotics is going to sort mine and I'm equally clueless about what I should do thereafter Grin

I have Been on roaccutane after a long period of acne myself, and my best advice is to keep it simple. Cetaphil is a very good noncomodegenic cleanser. I use the neutrogena oil free moisturizer.

LCS - it was antibiotics that sorted mine, I was skeptical, but it turned out that the so-called-hormonal acne was mainly caused by a Staph infection, and the hormonal side was minor. I still get a few little spots on my jawline a few days before my period, but nothing like the deep monsters that I was battling before.
LL10 - Thank you! I actually feel I need a stronger moisturiser now, amazingly, but will look at the Cetaphil. At the moment I'm using Simple moisturising facewash and seem to be getting on with it quite well. (A moisturing facewash! Me! WOW!!)

Look at Eucerin moisturiser for very dry skin. It's really good stuff. You only need to use a tiny bit so a tube lasts ages.

I'm pleased your skin has cleared up! I know the feeling when you have cystic acne for 10 years. I finally went to the gp last year and got antibiotics which cleared up most of it but my skin still isn't great. It's a lot better than it was though.

I use castille soap to wash, and an oil free moisturiser at the moment as my skin has gone the complete opposite way and is now quite oily rather than dry and flaky.

Applying a few drops of facial oil in the evening before your moisturiser will really help your skin too.

I would recommend rosehip oil at night as a moisturizer, it's very hydrating, full of vitamin E, so great for scars and pigmentation.

This one's my favourite www.fushi.co.uk/rosehip-seed-oil-organic.html

Another vote for Rosehip oil. I'd also recommend Indeed Labs Pepta-bright serum for pigmentation. It's quite moisturising as well so it gives your moisturiser a boost.

I found rosehip oil broke me out.. I'm nervous to use it now!

I have Duac cream from the Dr but am using coconut oil (sparingly!) if my skin feels dry!

It depends on the quality A LOT, what rosehip oil have you tried? I wasn't too keen on it either until I tried Fushi's.
I'd recommend to try Moringa oil too, it's more expensive, but a little goes a long way

I didn't go for that one because it's not organic neither virgin, the quality of different Rosehip oils can be like day and night.

I might give the Fushi one a whirl when it's back in stock. Have tried the Trilogy one previously.
