A translucent loose powder..

Never thought powder was for me as my skin is more dry than oily. However I recently tried some makeup at a Laura Mercier counter, they applied their tinted moisturiser with a little bit of their translucent setting powder on top. It looked great. I bought the TM and I love it, but I think a little bit of powder would make it last a bit longer. But Ican't justify the £30 cost of the lovely LM powder.

So, any recommendations? My skin is quite sensitive so it will be a very light application. I had a look around today but there are SO MANY!

I use the Boots No 7 one, it's really not bad. The rest of my make-up is Mac, Bobbi Brown and Clinique, so I have quite exacting standards!!

Sali Hughes has done a video on loose powder on The Guardian website, might be worth a look to get some more recommendations?

I'm disappointed with the Boots No 7 one. It dulls my skin and looks dusty. I wonder if they've reformulated it because I think it used to be better. It may be though that my standards have become higher . I'm after something really fine and perhaps brightening rather than dulling. I tried the hourglass ambient powder in Ethereal and I loved it but it is £38! I'd like to try the Laura Mercier one. I'd love to hear recommendations too.

I use the Prep & Prime powder from MAC (I prefer the pressed powder as it's easier to judge how much I need) at £20 at the moment, and am loving it as it doesn't make me look "caked" and it sets my BB cream all day.

However, the price isn't that much cheaper than LM.

I find a problem getting one pale enough. Most of the translucent ones are actually a beige shade & look dark on me. Clinique Transparency1 used to be ok but they discontinued it & the replacement is darker.

Again,lily lolo. It's also worth checking out their foundations if you are incredibly pale.

Corn silk Original Satin. I am a beauty therapist/ make up artist & I love it. It is a nude beige colour & absorbs oil. It doesn't change your foundation colour. You can get it in Boots, usually in the skin care section.

I use Laura Mercier usually with 'normal' foundation.

However, I bought the Lily Lolo translucent finishing powder recently after recommendation on here and it's absolutely wonderful and cheap at approx £15. But I use with their mineral foundation, which I've always avoided, but it's brilliant stuff.

I love Lily Lolo finishing powder too. The Flawless Matte version works best for me, their Translucent Silk has a high mica content and feels grainy and itchy. You can buy sample jars for a couple of quid and they will last weeks if not months so you can test them without committing a lot of money.

I also have Corn Silk but find it quite drying (have dry skin) and the MUFE translucent HD one that gets rave reviews, but for some reason I just don't like it (feels like rice starch on my face)... Ditto my neverending jar of vintage No. 7, dusty and an odd shade of apricot. They all do the job but I like the Lily Lolo best

I use the Bobby Brown loose powder and find that good. It is very fine and gives a lovely finish.

I'e never heard of Lily Lilo but might give that a go for a change.

Ben Nye Luxury Powder (which is the finest milled of all the powders in the range)

The banana powder was made famous by Kk, but I'm super pale and use the Cameo shade.
Comes in a massive pot, but i decant into a sifter pot to use.
