Flaky nose.

I have flaky bits on my nose, in the creases of the sides of my nostrils and sometimes between my eyebrows. I don't think it's dry skin exactly. Not sure what it is but it makes make up look rubbish.

My skin type is combination and acne prone although thanks to antibiotics I'm acne free at the moment.

I haven't had it for months and then this week it's there again. When I used to get it, exfoliating only made it worse.

The clarins exfoliating toner breaks me out as does hydraluron. I've also tried rosehip oil and the Balance Me roller ball one.

I use a good moisturiser and drink heaps of water.

Is there anything I can do or try to get rid of it?

I get flakey nostrils, the only thing that works for me is Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream applied before bed.

I have some lanolin I could try tonight. Bit nervous about break outs.

Thank you.

Sounds like dehydration. Try Hydrabio Riche cream by Bioderma (from escentual.com). Sorted out my flaky skin. They have a light version as well (Legere) which might be better if you're oily, and a mask which is very light but brilliant.

I'll check that out thank you. I did think dehydration but then ruled it out because of all the water I drink but thinking about it my cuticles have been really dry lately too. Thanks!

Flaky nose due to having a cold responds well to the medicated blistex in a metal tube. Smile

Minshu This is more the top of nostrils, the crease next to your cheeks iykwim. I'll bear that it mind though. Smile

Me too.

I'm currently using Aveeno, which seems to be working for now.

Superdrug's Pure hydrating range (white bottles with blue caps and writing).

I use coconut oil as a cleanser, removing it with a muslin cloth which I use to exfoliate. has sorted out my flaky bits.

If it's red as well it could be seborrhoeic dermatitis.

I get this and sometimes along my hairline & in my case it is seborrhoeic dermatitis, which is basically cradle cap- very glamorous! Having tried various products over the years I have discovered that washing with just water and using a cloth/flannel to gently rub the flakes away, combined with Olay total effect night & day moisturisers works best for me. Whatever I do tiredness and/or stress always seems to aggravate it.

I use oil of olay facial cleansing dry pads sensitive...you wet, them wash your face, rinse with warm water, pat dry.
No toner needed
No exfoliator needed
then neutrogena 3in1 hydrating stress stuff which is an active bha = so very good for oil/blackheads etc
the olay regenerist serum fragrance free

do this for a few weeks and you skin will be completely different
i promise

I'll add Aveeno to the list Ebear thank you.

Lizzy I used coconut oil as a cleanser as you describe but it broke me out unfortunately. I use Emma Hardie cleansing balm now. My skin can be very temperamental. Thanks for the suggestion though. You've reminded me I still have a huge jar left I could use as a body oil.

Selks and Izpie I don't think it's that. There's no redness just what looks like peeling bits. Very small area. I'll look into it still as you never know.

Ronald That sounds like the kind of routine I used to have that would trigger a bout of cystic acne. But I don't know any of the ingredients in any if it so will have a read. Good to see what works for others. Smile

I realised earlier that I've been eating more sugar than I usually do. I wonder if that has an effect. Should point out that apart from the little patches on my nose my skin is doing really well lately. No breakouts at all. Which is what makes me think it could be something I am or aren't eating rather than external. Just thinking out loud.

I had this same problem.....posted last year and was recommended Eucerin 5% urea cream. For me it solved my problem immediately. Nothing short of miraculous, for me it isn't quite the right thing for the rest of my face but I faithfully use it on my nose and no flakiness. Hope it helps.

Noticed the Neutrogena stuff has bha in it rather than aha which causes breakouts Ronald Could be well worth a try, I do get blocked pores on my nose too.

None of this is really visible to anyone else but after getting my skin to behave and look good after months of horrible acne flare ups it's annoying me more than it would do I suppose. Thanks for all the suggestions. Open to more if anyone else has experienced similar. Especially if anyone knows the cause.

cou

what moisturiser do you use currently? that might provide some answers? sometimes that neutogena bha I recommended means that you can go without entirely

The cleansing balm routine can leave a lot of people dehydrated and bizarrely acne prone, maybe it's time for a change to something very simple pure and rinse off?
Olay also do a sensitive skin foaming face wash that I bulk buy in the US. No idea where you are based but maybe an option?

did you use benz peroxide for your acne?

Sorry damn phone. It's not really heavy but it doesn't really do much for the rest of my skin. I use a small dab on my nose most days and occasionally between my eyebrows. Previously I tried all sorts of creams and alternatively trying to exfoliate the flakes away or really rich creams to intensively moisturise. I'm not sure if it is just me but it completely fixed my problem. I wouldn't be without it now. Because I need so little the jar I have is still the original one and its not nearly empty. I think it is often on special at Boots ( sorry I'm out of the country now). Give it a try. It was such a nightmare because for me I couldn't put any foundation, concealer or powder on it when it was flaky because it would look a thousand times worse.

Have you tried Canestan? Obviously the one for external use. If you've been on antibiotics and have been eating more sugar than usual it could be worth a shot. Red, flaky skin can be a sign of something fungal rather than just dry skin.

If it's just your nose, I would try something like 8 hour cream overnight as Roger suggests - works wonders for me! The other thing I find when my skin has dry patches is basically avoiding all water on it. I use this Clarins one which doesn't require any rinsing, just use cotton wool. It clears every last trace of make up away but isn't remotely drying. I use day/night cream/facial oil as appropriate afterwards. Also it's one step so good for the uber lazy like moi.
