Silly summer wedding / clothes question

Have unexpectedly been invited to a wedding early August, nightmare as I thought this year I would get away without any outfit angst!

Help!!

I have a really nice black dress, not too short etc., and a really nice pair of black shoes.

I get really cold and go blue as soon as the sun disappears (have Reynaulds) so bare legs is never in a million years an option! I don't really like nude tights, wore them last year and felt odd.

Would black tights (thin) be an option if I made sure accessories were colourful? And is wearing black even okay?!?

Or, say I wore some sort of shrug / scarf, would it be an idea to match the tights to that - with the black shoes - or will I look like a liquorice allsort?

I am really clueless and would go in my jeans and sneakers if I could...

(I'm 40 by the way, and I know I should have this grown-up dressing thing sussed by now!)

I think black dress, tights and shoes might be a bit, well, black tbh. I would go for nude tights and different colour accessories, not necessarily bright - maybe metallic. It also depends on where the wedding is being held - church, registry office etc.

You could wear thin tights but it would attract more attention than if you wore natural coloured tights.

Why don't you wear trousers? Then you can wear tights underneath if need be.

If you're going to a wedding aboard then I wouldn't wear black. In the UK it's not such a big deal.

fine mesh fishnets in a flesh / beige? sound revolting when wrtten like that but I love them

Thanks everyone :)

Fishnets are a step too far into the scary unknown for me!

I could go the trousers route, but I really like this dress and have never worn it Grin

So if I did do the nude tights, would black shoes be okay with them? Need to get out of the mindset that I look like a cast member of TOWIE when I wear them!

So black dress, nude tights, black shoes and some colour with accessories. I'm not very good with bold colours so likely to be quite subtle with them...

Wedding is in the UK, not sure if it's church / registry office. Am going with the best man but I've never met anyone else going so it's all a bit scary and I don't want to show up the best man by turning up looking like a loon!

If you don't know anyone else going I can understand the scariness!

Is there any way you could do a dress other than black?
Some people are fine with it at weddings but a lot still aren't and it's harder if you know no one.

Longer maxi dress to keep your legs warmer?
(Could wear any tights under or even thin leggings if needed then)

If you really love the black and are desperate to wear it, I would go with quite a splash of colour - wrap or thick belt or large clutch etc. to take away from it.

Either nude tights, 40 denier tights with bright accessories, or if you've got the legs to carry it off, bright tights.

I don't like nude tights, but have worn them to weddings a lot as I also have blue legs so even if it's hot,so I need to cover them up. If you get some that are a nice texture, and a good colour (try a few different ones) they'll look fine Smile

Thanks so much jackstini and bringbackopalfruits :)

(blue legs (and hands) is a nightmare isn't it bringback. Even when it's a hot summer day I'll go blue as soon as the sun goes in, or if not before!)

I think I am worrying more as I won't know anyone.

As I've got plenty of time, I might have a look for another option that isn't black just to be safe, but if I do go for the black I'll make sure there's a good splash colour in there too.

THanks again

Don't wear coloured tights, you'll look mental imo and the best man is bound to hate them on sight. Invest in a really nice pair of nude tights [two pairs for ladders] in a non-TOWIE hue and you'll be fine.
Black shoes = fine if not too boring. ie Work pumps
Splash of colour definitely. Bright clutch bag and scarf, plus chunky necklace or bracelet depending on neckline and you are done.

I would go with the dress, nude tights, and I would buy some bright bold jewellery, matching shawl/cardi, bag and shoes.

Accessorise do some lovely bright bags and ebay is great for jewellery - I got a lovely peacock feather necklace last year for a about £3 from China. Looked great with a black dress and turquise shawl.

M&S Autograph tights in 10 or 15 denier are lovely and silky and they do very good colours. The 'illusion' is milk bottle leg colour and 'natural tan' really is quite natural.
They last for ages without laddering too.

Wow you are all great!

Wonderstuff those shoes are almost identical to the ones I have in black! I won't buy others as I so rarely dress up but really good to know the ones I have might be on the right track :)

Love the bag too. Will defo check out Accessorize...

Will also be checking out the nude tight options. Felt very orange in the ones I wore last year but I probably went for the wrong shade.

So colours colours colours to accessorise and I should be okay, yay!!

Thanks again :)

Hello again you lovely people!

Since first posting, I went a bit credit-card happy and bought myself a lovely (I think!) dress for this wedding.

I was convinced by the model wearing the black tights, and thinking it would look okay even for a summer wedding? (I even have a similar gold cuff thing which I think looks fab with the dress in the pic).

The dress is lovely and looks nice on (and I don't say that often!)

Only difference would be that my shoes are black...

What do you think? with a nice bright bag?

Dress
