Clothes for a wedding

FarelyKnuts · 16/10/2012 22:39

Please help? I have a winter wedding to attend in December and cannot for the life of me decide or find what to wear.
I am a size 18/20 with little norkage and bloody hate heels.
Bit punk/alternative and very fond of black (but not sure for wedding??)
Gah. Lost cause?

Wear a smarter more dressed up version of what you normally wear to go out
Heels not compulsory
Black not out completely unless you look like you are going to the office or a funeral. other colours better if you can manage it

How tall are you/age range? Do you have a generous budget or need a bargain?

How about something like this?

You could wear it with tights and sparkly flat shoes if you don't like heels (or you may not like sparkles!)

I have tried that dress on, it's lovely but very clingy, i would go up a size if buying it.

Ooh that is gorgeous but the clingy bit would be a bit of a worry

Would you consider something along the lines of this?

Excellent! That sort of style is likely to be really flattering and there's nowt like a petticoat to make you feel glam. Absolutely fine with ballet flats too...

Chances are that dress will be back in stock well in time but it'd be worth ringing them to check - they're a small company and always really helpful.

Will definitely do that. Thank you so much!!!

Get cutie do some fab stuff (in a wide range of prints) but nothing petticoat-able.

Wink

Lindy Bop dresses aren't the best quality fabric but it's fine they are pretty well made. IME they tend to fall a wee bit on the big side and have a bit of stretch. They should be close fitting so size down rather than up - hip size is irrelevant BTW, go on breast / waist size.

If you can stretch to a VoH petticoat then do they are shockingly lovely to wear, soft, sexy, swingy and swishy. No stiffness at all, unlike the ebay cheapies.

these wee flats are quite sweet

(Oh, and dare I suggest a pillbox hat?)

(this or this would be fab with the ladyV dress)

Am going with the lindybop dress for sure, I really like it. Now black or red petticoat?

Would these shoes go with it?

Mmmm, you could but it'd be a shame really. If you don't want to splash out on shoes you wont wear again, how about these?

Petticoat wise either would be fine, if your going for the VoH one and might buy other dresses in this style I'd say black - just because it can be worn with loads more dresses than the red. OTOH if you're not likely to buy another dresses that take a petticoat, you're going for a cheapie or you're made of money then red, it'd be fabulous.

Think you are right about the black petticoat. And hmm on the shoes only because pumps don't stay on me well unless they have a strap

Ah, ok. I like the ones you linked to but they'd look pretty lumpen with the dress, I think. Great for toning it down for day-to-day wear but not really appropriate for a formal do. These? (too?) OTT?

Was the rosey pill box anything like?
