Help-quick! How easy would this be?

I've just been told I am having my hair cut today (birthday pressie....happy 40th to me.....) and don't know what to get done. I've been talking about getting it cut for ages, but hadn't made any decisions. It's quite long at the moment, but I've been thinking I like Kate silvertons hair, the newsreader. Do you think it would be really hard to keep? I could just ask the hairdresser when I go, but I've not been to this one before! I hope they're good!

It is always easy to do things we regret Sad

Oh dear, did you get it cut in a way you don't like, lebof?

I wouldn't do anything too dramatic with a new hairdresser unless you have brilliant personal recommendations.

I'd go for a general tidy up.

Do they not want to do a consultation before cutting your hair?

Happy Birthday!

Mrs CB is right, of course, but I wil also say that I have never seen the phrase "newsreader hair" used as a compliment.

Thank you mrscampbellblack! With regards to the hairdresser, I think they are meant to be quite good, (hope so anyway!) and tbh I am just so sick of my hair the way it is. I threatened to just get it cut in a bob, which has always been a fallback position for me, and the chorus of no!s was resounding. Noes? No's? Pedant police, please forgive, it's my birthday!

Happy Birthday! Can you post some pics of what you like, or perhaps say what your hair type and length is now?

Thank you leBof! My hair type is dark brown and nondescript, it's not quite straight but it's not curly/wavy either. It's just below shoulderlength, and I have a fringe. I like bobs (too boring though), and I usually side part my hair.

ooooh! I'm going for a haircut today as well and want something completely different - I've also got brown shoulder length hair but no fringe at the moment - I've spent about 2 years growing it out so of course want one put back in Hmm

My much younger and more fashionable work colleagues have suggested a choppy fringe bob - so it'll be messy (hurrah!) and shorter than now. I've got a few pictures that they found me (bless - I'm like a constant project to them) but only hard copy - will try and find some and do links Grin

and a quick question from me - how stupid will I look going into the hairdressers with a page full of pictures of hair styles? Colleagues said definitely do it - in fact they looked horrified that I wouldn't have pored over magazines to take a picture in - but I feel a bit silly really.... Confused

Ooh I like those dottydot! Is that what you are having done? I wonder if that last one would just leave me looking like I've gone through a hedge backwards, though. It's all right for models to look like that, I'm not put together enough to carry it off!

I've done that before with the pics, they take it In their stride. Didn't bat an eyelid, and I didn't feel as daft as I expected. Definitely take the pictures. Xx

ooooh - I've got a bob! Grin Short at the back, longer at the front - not sure about the fringe cos she's moved it right to the side ande it's rebelling - will have to superglue it with hairspray tomorrow... It's not massively choppy, but I think my natural lack of styling expertise will make it look choppier tomorrow Grin

Hope yours goes OK - report back please...!

Sorry-was out and couldn't report back, damn real life interfering with mning! Glad to hear yours went well, it sounds lovely! I went for the silverton flicky type thing, and loved the way it was done-I just hope I can do it myself without it looking daft. She did show me how, but we'll see.... X
