How warm are the mini Boden fleece lined anoraks?

Thinking of buying one for my 2 yr old DS for this winter and wonder if it will be warm enough for sitting in the buggy on the school run etc when it gets really cold.

They are heavenly. Not as warm as say a snowsuit, but they are the warmest waterproof coats I've come across. I have them every year for both my DC, they are so practical for winter. Of this year's batch, I'd say the boys' ones feel slighly warmer.

My dd had one last winter and also the 3in1. The 3in1 was warmer but also bulkier, she wore the fleece lined most even in the snow.

we always buy these not too bulky so you can still strap them in the carseats, my 8yr old prefers this coat as he can still run fast, they wash and dry very well, i also buy the boden snowboarding jackets and did get the puffa type one year but found them too puffy and restricting, sadly i think last years still fit....

Agree with the previous 2 comments. My 2 dd have had these for the last 3 years and LOVED them. They actually have had the boys versions - dislike the 'girly' colours - and are great value.

I ordered one for my ds(nearly 3) but thought the material was stiff and horrible, nowhere as nice as previous years so sent it back. I don't think it would be warm enough for the really cold days in winter, it's just not padded enough. And they're not waterproof, they're water resistant. The snowboarding jacket is waterproof, and is actually really nice, much warmer than the fleece lined anorak I would think. Or Joules do a lovely fleece lined properly waterproof coat for little boys as do Togz.

His older brother had the padded jacket last year and year before, which I didn't think was that bulky, very light to wear and he loved it, seemed to keep him v.warm. But again, I ordered one for ds1 (he's nearly 8) and the material was nowhere near as nice or as durable as last year/year before that - the price has gone up considerably as well. I ordered the green, which was vile (even viler green lining). Looking at getting him a Gap Warmest Jacket when Gap do a discount instead as I know they are really really warm and last for ages! Landsend do down coats as well, with a 25% discount at the moment. Nice colours too.

DS has the Gap warmest jacket - exactly that one actually. It is really nice but VERY warm (yes the clue is in the name I know!) It is not really suitable for anytime other than the depths of winter - was great last year though.

the BEST coat DS has ever had was the Jojomamanbebe one, I got him an age 4 -5 when he was two (as I like to buy stuff to "grow into") he is now six so has had almost four winters out of it as it just fits. It still looks great and is waterproof and warm and you can buy matching dungarees etc. I highly recommend it. Unfortunately only goes up to age 4 -5 though.

Now I don't know whether to get one for ds1! I'm up north so it is pretty cold for several months, the Boden padded jacket was perfect. I have 2nd hand gap warmest jackets for my twins who will b 3 in a few weeks. They just seem really well made. A boden snowboarding jacket arrived yesterday for ds1 in the pale blue, can't decide whether to keep it!

DSs had the Boden fleece lined one last year and when it was really, really cold, I just put them in a fitted fleece from H&M - they have some great ones in at the moment (got DS2 a grey one with navy stars on it today for 6 pounds) here Know that wont suit everyone's idea of a warm coat but it worked for us!

DS1s Boden snowboarding jacket just arrived and it does seem thicker.

I was just going to suggest something similar from H&M!

I think it's really difficult to find warm and waterproof, so better to get a proper waterproof and layer with fleece underneath.

DD has a Boden anorak for this year but I don't think it'll serve either purpose amazingly well.

Those H&M fleeces look really useful and especially at that price! I think I will buy one for all 3 of my DS's.

I've bought quite a few of these over the years - they seem good value and in the past we've been able to get two winters out of them. They also sell well on ebay - I sold one which my daughter had been wearing for 2 years for slightly more than I paid for it which I thought was a bit bonkers! This year there have been some negative reviews that they aren't as good quality but I don't really agree. I bought another one for my 2 year old this year.

Those H&M fleeces are fab Ollie, I want to buy one for all 4 dc! DS1 has a baby version which he still wears & it's v.handy. I guess I find with 4 dc that it's easier to find a 'perfect coat' rather than have several things to put on each of them (and lose, and wash, and put away when we get home...). Although probably layers are a better way to go to stay warm really.

DS1 already had a regatta jacket with a zip-in fleece but I don't think that will be warm & cosy enough in December - last year it was sub zero for days on end.

Those H&M fleeces look great - I may get some. The last 2 winters I have been putting thermal underwear on my kids because it's been so cold!

Oooh - love it when a link goes down well! H&M fleeces are great - they are quite thin (ie not chunky like Gap ones) so great for layering. They have some really great colours/prints this year too.
I can also recommend their er, (whispers) tights for boys too! I never thought I would end up buying tights for my 2 boys but their Lightening McQueen ones were great at keeping them warm in the snow under jeans and snow trous ers (DS2 really feels the cold - didnt tell him they were tights tho - just called them long johns which seemed to work!!!). Their snow socks are v good too. here

just looked at the Gap website link there - baby girls go up to 24 months; 'girls' starts with xs at age 4. Do Gap not dress children between 2 and 4? or am I missing something ?
