Feeling old at thirty!!!!

Excuse me while I rant...................anyone else feeling old and well over that very distant on the horizon hill???!!!!! I always thought I took good care of myself and looked on the good side of ok however turning thirty has brought with it the realisation that I am no longer 18 in spirit and definitely not in body!! Has anyone else considered botox and fillers? I've started taking my usual casual browse through my avon catalogue a little more seriously and the words dermabrasion and serum now bring with them hope of regaining what appears to be lost................!!!

30 is not old! What are you not happy with? Microdermabrasion is great as it removes dead skin cells and makes your skin glow and appear much brighter.

Yep, I think 30 is hard as it's the real tipping point into old age adulthood. It's a style and beauty quagmire, too old for oasis and topshop, too young for jigsaw, m&s and White Stuff. Caking yourself in make up make you look old but you are no longer young enough to look fresh-faced with none.

Thank you ladies...I fear it is more in my head than in the mirror but I just don't look as nice as I used to, I've got a hefty gordon ramsey between my eyes and lines under my eyes I dont like it one bit!! However champagne tastes and beer pockets mean botox and fillers will have to wait!! x

Poor you - you'll get used to being 30, it's not so bad. If botox is out of reach try this - stand in front of a mirror, take a deep breath, then stand up straight. Really straight. Hold your stomach in, drop your shoulders, bring your chin in towards your neck. No matter what you're wearing, it'll look better on an up-straight figure. Now smile - the cheapest face-lift in the world. Not just a 'from the teeth for'ard' smile, a real genuine, happy to be here smile. It won't help with everything (that's why we have hair dye, night cream, and eyebrow tweezers..), but it will help a bit.
Hully - 47 is so last year. Oh, wait a minute. 49 is so last year. :o

Oh shut up! I'm 41 and have only just decided in the last couple of years that 80% of Topshop and Oasis clothes are too young for me now - and, I think a lot of that is to do with trends, ie. playsuits, mini dresses and 5 inch heels. If they catch on to the midi dress/40s glamour trend that is back on the cards for A/W11 I'll have no qualms about buying stuff in there again.

Anyway, back to the OP. I know it feels like a bit of a shocker turning 30. It's a new chapter if you like (well, you probably don't just now). But when you look back at it you will realise just how young and fresh faced, and probably still quite firm too you still are at your age!

Dress in what you feel good in. Please, please don't decide you're too old to shop in Topshop and the like!

Sigh. I looked so fresh faced at 30 and now at 38 I am starting to sag and crack all over.

And guess where I shopped today- H and M! Sizes are bigger these days so I'm still a 10 :D so it feels like I'm still a teenager.

I don't really give a shit any more what I look like in my clothes- I just want to like them. (Probably because I know I'll look pretty old whatever I wear, but heck who cares??) This is a privilege of age- embrace it!!

god, playsuits they surely look good on NOONE.

My students seem to have universally adopted a near-naked style of dressing. Shorts up to crotch in summer. Shorts up to crotch in winter, plus black tights.

They must be bloody cold when the sun's not out. And by god it makes me glad I don't have to dress like a young 'un....

I'm struggling a bit wit 29-nearly-30-ness too....... I've also got a Gordon ramsey between my eyebrows!!

Have always tried to be fairly on trend without being fashion victim-y and dress my fat well as I like to put it but now I occasionally realise that I might look like I'm in fancy dress as a young person!!! Its a funny stage I think as sometime feel like I look like an in fancy dress as a grown up too..... Shallnt be ruling any specific shops out any time soon though, more ruling out particulary "young trends" iswim

OP! It gets worse trust me. 30 was bad enough but having reached 31 my fine lines are breeding by the minute and the deep frown lines are becoming trenches and just begging for botox. I no longer have any baby smooth skin anywhere it's all going crepey even on the insides of my arms. AND I'm getting a crese down one cheek from how I sleep

Anyway, you have my every sympathy. It sucks. I'm going to do some saving and kick wrinkly ass with as many products and injections as possible. I'm way too young to be so horrified at the rate these buggers are creeping up on me

30 was definitely the most difficult age. 40 was great because you learn to relax and enjoy life more. I actually look younger at 41 than I did at 32, no idea how but I think genes and staying out of the sun have helped.

I turned 31 this week
I still shop where I use to when I was a teenager!!
I love river island, Dorothy Perkins, new look, cult etc.....
I have accepted that I'm getting older, but fortunately 4 me I look alot younger than I am ( still get asked 4 I.d ) so think I can get away with it

To make myself feel better I had a very tiny online shopping session last night i've decided to draw the attention away from Gordon and his pals by making everything south of the disaster zone look as fabulous as it can without resorting to getting my jaws wired xx

I remember feeling portents of doom when I was 29 and my 30th was coming up. I wanted to spend my borthday in bed. I was seriously convinced I was getting OLD.

Now I am 33 and think it is GREAT. This is a great decade. Fuck being a teenager and in my 20s again. That was a very very difficult time for me. I now have a great life - stuff is not so much of a struggle. Plus I have no childcare/maternity leave/nursery issues as all my young childrearing is done.

Re ageing - get botox. I am a frowner and was getting lots of lines on my forehead. I had botox 3 weeks ago and now look the same as when I was 25. Also use SPF 50 - I did anyway from late 20s due to skin cancer, however I think that has helped my skin stay so soft and clear.

Clothes - never been a problem really. I just go to more expensive shops now than in my 20s because I have more money - so instead of Top Shop, New Look, Primark et al go to Ted Baker, French Connection, Reiss etc. Still get loads of throwaway stuff from Asda and Tesco, though.

30 is not too old for topshop and certainly not oasis! wear what you like otherwise you wont feel good, enjoy it. topshop doesnt just sell hot pants they have a wide slection of clothing.
30 is still a scary prospect but i think its making me think more about my skin routine, diet, exercise (metabolism is definitely slowing right down) etc but less about my clothing. (swears to never buy white stuff/boden/m&S )

this was a bit of a shock to me as i managed to get away with looking under 23 until i hit about 28 . you still with me?

upgrade your beauty routine a bit. shop for what looks good on you rather than what is fashionable. look at friends styles that you admire and see what you can adapt to suit you. you may have an occasional wobble ie here but otherwise look forward, not back.

dermabrasion and serums are all good, the 30 anew stuff in the avon catalogue is actually v v g.

embrace your age and the sense of having lived a bit that comes with it as oppose to thinking oh jesus it's all down hill from here.
