Interview - suit jacket or no suit jacket

Hi

I am crossing my fingers I have an interview or two coming up to change jobs. I'm applying for school office work.

I have a black pencil skirt, a black/grey blouse with a wide belt and grey mary jane shoes. All look very smart.

However, do I need to get a jacket too? I havent been for an interview for 7 years, and the last one I was told I was too formal in a suit Confused so I'm not sure whether to buy one or not.

I havent got an interview yet, but really really want this job so am getting my hopes up a bit Blush

I'd wear a jacket too. Good luck! Smile

Another vote for a jacket. Shows you are treating the interview seriously.

If you won't actually be wearing the jacket once you have got the job, could you borrow one?

Wear a jacket! Sounds like you'd only need a plain black one - you can get nice ones pretty cheap in places like Primani or supermarkets if you don't want to spend too much. Otherwise it shouldn't be too much trouble to borrow one?

Good luck with the interview

Thanks guys, I will get a jacket.

The links are good, but I have very big boobs and short body so they really wouldnt suit. But the pencil skirt I got was a Primark special (£5) so guessing I can get the matching jacket. The thing is with a suit jacket is I know it will get worn again.

Thanks. Fingers crossed I find out Friday if I have an interview.

Fingers crossed for you. I work in HR and would never frown on someone for being too smart/formal for an interview for an admin role. Wear the jacket to the interview - even if you don't wear it regularly for the actual job, it will always be a useful addition to your wardrobe for smarter events.

I bought a jacket from peacocks years ago and it saw me through quite a few interviews over the years. I never went too close to a naked flame when I was wearing it though Grin.

Lots of luck with the interview

Fab, thanks!

said that link looks good, and we have one of those near us so will pop in there on the weekend.

Icould yes, I do tend to stay away from naked flames whilst wearing my primarni specials!!

Lola I remember being shocked at being told I was too smart/formal. They had a parent rep on the interview panel, and apparently wearing a suit was too formal for her. It was a lovely suit, (grey marl effect) which I still have, but I just cant bring myself to wear it after those comments. Will go hunting for a black one to go with the suit skirt.

I picked up a cropped boucle for £10 in (whispers) Store Twenty One - worth a look?
