Have you changed your style since joining Mumsnet?

I certainly have! I no longer wear waterfall cardigans (and find I am judging those who do), or linen trousers, sensible shoes (especially from Clarks) or sarongs.
I no longer even LOOK in Per Una, except maybe a pitying sideways glance, or in Wallis, for fear of dayglo polyester.
I have taken to wearing tapered chinos with snappy blazers, jersey dresses and leggings with summer dresses- although I think the jury is still out on that one.

Yup. I used to do 'trends'. Now I do the 'uniform' of stripey tops, blazers, boyfriends cardis, slim leg jeans, chinos, plain jersey tunics, leggings, etc, and I have to say I love what's in my wardrobe. Eg at the moment am wearing dark blue and white breton, olive cropped chinos, navy boyfriend cardi, and tasteful scarf. And weirdly never see anyone else dressed the same! Clearly no mumsnetters round here...
Also can't do white stuff or fat face anymore, presumably out of fear that some middle aged but exceptionally stylish woman will come up to me in the street and inuslt my dress sense

EllieorOllie, lol at your tasteful scarf but have to say my 'uniform' sounds a lot like yours! Can I ask what you are wearing on your feet with that outfit?

I am finding getting the shoes right makes the rest of the 'outfit' fall into place better and from recent obsessive observtion, it is often the shoes that are an age give-away and let the outfit down. I struggle to find shoes that are stylish and practical for everyday use!

Since joining Mumsnet I have bought some things from boden (and have been VERY happy with them, all plain & understated), a dress from phase eight, 3 breton tops from H&M, skinny cargos from salsa fits my life, clarkes originals Yarra Desert boots (THE comfiest boots ever!), some lovely 'tasteful' scarves from gap, and I am busy squirreling money away for belstaff boots for the winter.

nothing on feet at the mo, but was wearing red French Sole ballet pumps to jazz outfit up a bit. lovely.... am shoe obsessive, so I understand your ishoos! i have a wide range of ballet pumps (including Blochs, don't rate them), and find my tan New Look (!) ones most useful, closely followed by topshop nudey pink ones, but also love the plain red. also beginning to love my grey converse with silver laces that I bought last year. tan Oasis flower flip flops v good as well. hth!

Clarks, along with per una and next are the work of the devil. Only ever wear gorgeous shoes or Converse. White Stuff and Fat Face are dull dull dull. Boden can produce a few good bits.

Must say, that stripey top uniform doesn't work for me as my children were wearing it a couple of years ago. They ban me from it now. It's a bit everywhere for me. But what do I know?

I have definitely tried things I wouldn't have before. It can be easy to get stuck in a rut with what you wear and it is good to try new things even if just to accept that they really don't suit you!

I have, from manly to womanly :) From baggy jeans that had FAR too low a waist with oversized t-shirts and chunky trainers to skinnies and pretty heels with feminine tops that even have a bit of colour in them and... dresses... but I am young and was coming out of my teens.

sob I still wear my waterfall cardi. I love it so. It is purple and I suit purple and I am fat chubby and I like it because I feel like it hides a multitude of sins, even if I know that it doesn't.

I discovered Boden and White Stuff, which I would have called 'granny shops' previously. I really like the Boden jersey dresses for work and white stuff tunic tops are great for casual days

I have bought a fair few beauty products after hearing people rave about them on MN. Winners have been my Babyliss Big Hair and Nars Illuminator and (for my DD) the Tangle Teezer and Curly Girl products.

But I never liked linen trousers or waterfall cardis anyway

And there are some MN S&B staples that I think are irredeemably vile (Birkenstocks, Fly London boots, skinny cargoes, denim skirts).

A little. Someone posted a link to a White Company dress a couple of months ago (its no longer on the website) and I bought that and I'm really happy with it. But I think I've always just bought whatever I think flatters me at the time, and that hasn't changed.

I have discovered Hush and probably wouldn't have looked twice at Birkenstocks or Converse before MN, although the jury is still out on both of those pairs of shoes. I would also never wear linen trousers again.

I think you have to be discerning in which style and beauty advice you take, but I think MN has assisted me. Not changed me, though.

I have discovered and saved in my favourites a huge long list of online shops for beautiful clothes. Living in the sticks and not in England, I was extremely limited before discovering MN S&B threads, on where I could shop. Never considered online shopping before. Now only buy things that I absolutely love. Every item I purchase has to be 100% right for me, 99% won't do. I won't buy smthg just because it fits. That way, I'm starting to enjoy clothes and feel better about myself. Also love those who stand up and say they'll still wear something because they love it, even if that item is slated on MN.....makes me feel more confident in wearing things that are maybe different from the boring "standard uniform" in my locality.

I havent changed my style. Hate Boden Ladies & Toast its just too old and mumsy for me. I dont see why everyone raves about Breton Tops -although i didnt realise they were called this until i came on here -I thought they were just called stripey tops (lol)

However i do like Zara and all the ridiculous expensive stuff on Net-a-porter which i wouldnt buy.

Would like to see some more links to some Lower end high street stores (not Primark) and not just the high end ones.

I haven't changed my style hugely, although I did get the push I needed to get rid of the vile black block-heeled boots I've been wearing to work for the last xx years.

I have also been lured into the odd Boden purchase (but only in the sales), and found the perfect Christmas Party frock courtesy of a S&B thread late last year. I also bought a Babyliss Big Hair and learned how to tie a scarf in a "European Loop With A Twist". BUT....

I still shop at Next/Fat Face/White Stuff/Clarks - selectively, of course.

I still wear bootcut jeans sometimes, and am also attached to my lovely purple waterfall cardi.

I still can't bear Converse or Birkenstocks (fugly!)

I still won't wear a breton top in case I am mistaken for a passing French onion seller.
