If you're tall do you still wear heels?

I'm 5'11" and I love heels - not skyscraper vertiginous ones, more 2" - 3" ones. However I do scale 6' when I wear them.

Am I alone in this? Should I be wearing horribly unflattering flat shoes? Just got me wondering today when I was tottering along in ridonculous heels in the office today :o.

nope - you are not alone. I am an inch shorter than you but love heels. Highest I own are 5", although they are not worn often. Try to wear them as often as poss in day, but usually only if I have one dc with me - all 3 and I feel a bit vulnerable in heels!!

You're not alone - I am also 5'11" and like my heels! I do have a strange rule that I don't wear heels over 3.5 inches though.

I reckon that I'm tall even in flat shoes, so sod it I'm not clomping round in them all the time! People will just have to crane their necks that little bit more to talk to me, that's all Grin

Yup, and I love really high heels. Why wouldn't I

When I could spend all day in heels, I'd think nothing of being in 5 inchers. I'm 6 ft.

Unfortunately spinal issues mean I can't spend too long in them.Sad

Excellent. Yes - 3" is my heel threshold (I'm too much of an elephat to walk delicately in 5" heels - I salute you Letthemeatcake!).

I'm 5' 10" and I used to wear heels. My DH, bless 'im, is 5'8" so I don't wear heels anymore Grin

I used to prechildren even though at 5'10"(ish) I was exactly the same height as DH so towered over him in heels. I gave up when I started pushing buggies designed for short people, and having excruciating back and shoulder pain rather than the niggling problems I had before Sad

I'm trying to get back into the swing off it, but have lost the knack! I have a beautiful pair of scarlet heels that I haven't had the courage to wear yet Smile

No. I can't walk very elegantly in them and prefer to wear flats.

I do for a night out but even take spare flats for getting home/ in case they hurt my feet. Feel safer when I can RUN RUN RUN!

serenity · 16/11/2010 21:09

To make that make sense - started wearing only flats, as heels and stupidly designed buggies didn't mix (oh and DS1 seemed really far away down there on the floor)

god just re-read my post.

I have 5" heels but didn't mean to imply that I wear them as often as possible in day. Just that I try to wear a heel as often as possible. The five-inchers are strictly dinner shoes - ie sitting down

I am 5'10" and would love to wear heels but just feel soooo tall so I stick to my flat boring mumsy frumpy flats. :(

I am 6 feet tall and have a collection of heels I never wear- all my friends are small, dh is about an inch shorter and I feel too towering- then I hunch over which looks awful.

I am 5'10" and I love heels. I love wearing them in the office (towering over horrible people) and at the weekend if I am out and about. I do not wear them walking to the station etc as I worry about ruining the delicate heels etc.

I had a phase of being really self-conscious being so tall in them but I soon snapped out of it.

I have flats too but will always go back to heels.

5'10" and a heel lover too. But I have completely lost the knack of (sustained) walking in them since spending a year in flats being pregnant/with a newborn. Party shoes in the evening I can still manage but moderate heeled boots for daytime? not a chance. Boo!

gibba if you would love to wear heels - just do it! being tall is great!

I'm with you, Gibba - I'm 5'11" but feel like a tranny in heels, I wish I could get over it though as they just look nicer...Sad

I need some taller friends Grin

I am 6 foot and wear high heels - love being as tall as possible. Wear platforms as well.

Gives a nice advantage at work when you are the tallest person in a room full of blokes.

Imo short men though do NOT like women who are taller than them.

My daughter is nearly the same height as me, however she loathes being tall so stoops. Sad. Hopefully she will snap out of it. Being tall is great.

I am 5'11, i wear heeled (2 inches maybe 2.5) boots but i can't walk in heeled shoes at all.
My OH is shorter than me (looking into elevator shoes for him for xmas Grin ) so always feel really self-concious in heels.

No. I was always hated not being able to walk freely and was way too self-conscious when younger and now I have developed recurrent tendonitis which makes anything over about an inch total agony.

Im 6'1 and until having the dc I word heels everyday. Now I only west them on nights out. Or if needing to ne a bit more dressed.

I hate being so tall generally but on anight out I work on the theory that I'm going to stand out, I may as well stand out looking fab rather than frumpy.

I'm with GetOrf, though am a little bit shorter (5'10''). Wear heels and platforms. Rather like looking down on blokes at work. Did have one boss though who had real Short Man syndrome - made me wear higher heels.......

I don't wear heels and I'm 6 foot. I've never really worked out how to walk in them! if I could manage it I would though :)

saltyseadog · 17/11/2010 13:32

Yes, yes - it's the tranny look I'm scared of!
However I do like being tall, and it certainly gets you noticed.

I don't do heels out of the office though, unless I'm going out somewhere swanky. I'm definitely a Converse and jeans girl at home.
