So I've just bloody discovered (quite literally) that I have worms. I feel so utterly disgusting!!!
What do I do?? I can feel one wriggling in my bum and can't get it. I've read that at night they can crawl out of your anus and into your VAGINA!!!!!! 😱 please tell me this won't happen!!!!
Do I have to go to my GP? I can never get an appointment for weeks and think I'll end it all before putting up with this wriggling vile feeling for that much longer!!!
Please help!!!!!!

Go to the chemist.

You're welcome.

Yeah, go to the chemist and get ovex, worry not, it kills them in one swoop

Is there a late night chemist in your area ?

If so, go and tell the pharmacist what your symptoms are and ask if they can help.

I remember being advised to take a sachet of powder to stir into a glass of milk to drink. It was raspberry flavoured IIRC. That seemed to sort it.

As for the worms crawling into my vagina. (Did you really need to capitalise that word ?) Nope.

You just need ovex. And to scrub under your nails v thoroughly several times a day for a few weeks. Also, daily hoovering in your bedroom (to get the eggs), wear knickers to bed, change your sheets now, and treat everyone in your household with the ovex.
It's banana-flavoured. It's not that bad.

There's no late night ones near me - I'll have to go in the morning!! Has anyone had them treated whilst breastfeeding?? Just did a quick Google and getting conflicting information

Yep chemist, get ovex and repeat dose in a couple of weeks.

In the meantime take a pack of baby wipes (or face wipes) and a carrier bag and when you feel the itch, use one to wipe away the glue and put it in the bag. Or smear bum hole with vaseline. First thing in the morning, have a good wash in the shower.

Treat the whole household.

You can’t get prispin anymore. Those horrible work like a charm raspberry satchels are long gone.

What does that do??? Suffocate them or just help me get them out?! Erghhhhhh

Well they can’t move or lay eggs as easily if there’s a load of funk there.

Just a word of warning, we had to treat DS 3 times to get rid of them. The pharmacist said they are buggers to get rid of. So much washing and itching. Treat the whole family too as they are contagious and the eggs love for up to two weeks in the house Envy (not envy)

Hi love, don’t panic, my kids have got them! Their very easily caught and easy to get rid of! Do all of above with regards to washing and wearing undies for bed! Go to Chemist and ask for ovex it comes in ether suspension (liquid) or tablets! You’ll need to treat everyone in the house as their so easily spread I’m afraid! The ovex does t kill eggs though so I’d take another dose in 2 weeks time to be on the safe side! Put Vaseline around your bum as it should he’ll keep them from going into your vagina or so I’ve read and wear knickers for bed! Try putting sudocrem if no Vaseline as it might help itching aswell! I know you’ll prob feel dirty etc but don’t as you can literally catch them from anywhere, mud, dogs, kids as they spread them at school! It doesn’t mean your dirty or unhygienic! It just happens! It’s not a big deal! I almost died when I realised my child had them but it was daily solved problem! Try and relax! X

Does anyone know why Prispin was discontinued!?!

Report
Bellamuerte · 10/01/2018 22:39

The pharmacy sells sachets that you dissolve in water and drink. I had them several times as a child and the doctor said I was scratching then re-infecting myself by getting eggs under my fingernails then transferring them to my mouth when eating or biting nails etc. Wear clothes to prevent scratching and scrub your nails!

Just leaving it here from experience ...they can crawl in your vulva

Ive been treated for them whilst breastfeeding, it was fine.
Just wash all your bedding , towels etc, treat everyone in the house, and try not to think about it too much!

It’s a shame as well. It gave you the ultimate shits if my memory serves but that stuff was the dogs bollocks!

I was told by the pharmacist that Ovex wasn't safe whilst breastfeeding so double check.

Thankfully in my case I only needed as a "family" dose when DS had it and didn't catch them myself. She did say if it was absolutely necessary then you couldn't BF for 8 hours after, so in your case if you are able you could express in that time? Otherwise it is just extreme hygeine hand/towel/bedding washing and you should clear them.

How do you get worms?

Report
usedtogotomars · 10/01/2018 22:49

Someone with worms scratches their arse, the eggs get stuck under the fingernails, they touch something that you touch and you put your finger in your mouth and swallow the eggs. Nice Grin

You might not be allowed to buy the OTC product when breastfeeding as the OTC licence is quite restrictive so some pharmacists are likely to be reluctant to sell it - you might need to get it (exactly the same stuff) on a GP's prescription.

i used to get them constantly as a child, don't worry, you will have one night of discomfort.

Sudocrem your bottom to ease the itching and take a piriton if you have one.

Boil wash all the bedding and towels along with your underwear and pyjamas. If you're worried, all the trousers you have worn for the last five days.

In the morning go to the Chemist and get Ovex, it's one tablet that kills them and another in a fortnight which kills any eggs that have hatched.

TREAT THE ENTIRE FAMILY.

Bleach the shit out of your toilet and sterilise the seat, they are contracted through toilets which is probably how you got them.

Wash your hands, constantly.

The grim bit is this - try not to scratch but if you do - wash your hands. The fuckers get under your nails and if they get into your mouth then the whole cycle starts again.

They're like headlice - uncomfortable but not dangerous. You're also not dirty, have you used a communal toilet?
