The F***** LEA part 6

Went to see the alternative provision at the other school yesterday. Have turned it down. They just haven't got the history there and it is being thrown together with no detail, really, of what they will offer. Have made an appointment to see the LEA next Wednesday to 'negotiate'. Am going to ask for mornings in Early Years with 1:1 and specific ASD input plus afternoons ABA funded for the whole school year or until a unit space becomes available. Whaddayoureckon? DD hasn't had a nursery placement yet and the new research says 20 hrs ABA plus specialist Early Years setting is best for youngsters.

Sorry, obviously I'm going for the other school with the fab unit! But trying to compromise until unit becomes free.

Thanks RnB! I feel better attempting to compromise rather than throwing everything out of the pram immediately. Also, I'm saying I won't go fulltime unless it's in the unit so holding on to that 'direction' if you know what I mean. My ed psych (who you used RnB) says it will put us in a strong position if the LEA say no because we can use the fact we tried to compromise at tribunal. I really feel that in the circumstances it's that or tribunal.

I could well ask for a current therapist as the 1:1 and then if they say no compromise. I know that the person currently running the unit class is absolutely fantastic and gives the TAs really good training plus the Early Years teacher is very good so I'm not as worried as it's only half a day!
What a nightmare. So stressed. Spotty, run-down adn fed-up!

JakB - interested in that research (20hrs ABA plus specialist) - can you give me a link?

Am trying to sort out dd's provision and would like to get similar funding.

Good luck Jak.

Is that reserach the project that's recently been discussed on ABA-uk, including some people who took part in it. I'd read that thread thoroughly as I don't think it was as cut and dried as it sounds.

It went very well . They have agreed mornings at school in Early Years with DD's ABA therapist as the 1:1 for the first term at least. It will be reviewed in December but I made it very clear that DD is not going to school full-time until she has a unit place.
Feel much better about things and relieved they were willing to compromise. Still, haven't had it in writing yet... (!)

All the terms you use on the SN threads can sometimes go over my head but the underlying thing seems to be all the bloody battling you all do. It seems every single thread. Do you not get anything without hassle?

Makes me on your behalf.

Thanks! It is a battle, Oliveoil. I have got myself really stressed out about it and we still haven't confirmed the special class placement yet! Shouldn't be like this for parents who, quite frankly, have enough on their plate
