Transport called and said they cant make it to pick ds2 up for school today because of the snow, I could cry. Its been a really horrible weekend with him (actually a really bad 2 weeks) and I was looking forward to having 3 hours peace

Well, I'm going into uni later, but whether I can rely on the buses to get me home again is a different matter.

we're off. DD's school (PD) shut for health and safety. Just been out in garden. She hated it. Loved the snowdome last week but flakes blowing in her face a bit too much I think!

My DD has gone to school but transport had to park on the nearest gritted road and the escort walk to the house to collect her.

Yup. I've got two at home because DD2's nursery is shut too. And DD1 hates the cold so we are all housebound. DH is "working from home" (for which read - getting under my feet constantly and then conveniently disappearing for a conference call when it looks as if I need help with the kids). Even the dog is being more of a PITA than usual. Can't wait till bedtime.

Just gone to pick DD up for lunch and have been asked to keep her home this afternoon as neither her teacher nor the substitute can make it in due to snow. (She normally goes back after lunch). Don't really mind as can't do much in the afternoons due to DS nap, but am a bit because I think we're the only ones in the class!

Well, we are watching Wall-e for the 2nd time (oh joy) but its keeping ds2 occupied while I potter about tidying and changing nappies. DS3 has fallen asleep on his playmat so taking this oppertunity to come on here for a break.
I've got to brave the snow later and go get ds1 from school though. Perhaps I should leave earlier?

I kept DS1 home from school today....

Our car is snowed in, and the DLR is up sh*t creek. There are no London buses on the roads. It's too far to push a stroller through 8 inches of show there and back twice (I know I am a softie).

DS2 was supposed to go to GOS this afternoon for a cardiac appointment but even if we could get there there is no guarantee we'd be able to get back so I cancelled it.

My Makaton course for tomorrow has already been cancelled.

DS1 had fun this morning playing in the snow, but it was too much for poor DS2...

Yes- ds is off too and delighted - he loves snow ( but not getting cold and wet). MS school seem to be open as not many other kids about. Just been for a little walk ( ds refusing to wear coat/mittens/hat as usual he never remembers how cold playing in snow can get!!) and there is a good 5inches of snow! We made snow angels and I put haloes on each to chear me up!
Hope your day improves 5inthebed! Little ones don't always notice the magic of snow do they!!

Transport phoned at half 7 and said school was closed.
I already had DS1 dressed in case the bus turned up, which was a big mistake on my part as he started crying and was constantly asking to go to school for about 2 hours.
He's been out in the snow with his brother now and that calmed him down a bit and luckily he's been happy to watch Pingu in his room for the last hour.
The day is dragging though!

DS very grumpy as the school was open. He managed to pelt with me a few snowballs when we were clearing the car but the school's closing at 2 for the day pupils so plenty more chance for snowman-building etc later. We never grow up in our household

Yes, ds's school is closed here too, which is a pain. However, ds has been amazingly - uncharacterstically - calm; perhaps he realises that it's pretty inclement outside. He likes to sit on his windowsill so he's fully aware of the whiteout...I'm not optimistic the school will be open tomorrow either....

DS's school in Essex is closed today (am wondering whether it will be closed tomorrow as well). This is the case for many of the schools here.

YesDS' school closed and DH's school (he is a teacher) also closed! Not DD's nursery dayjust as well because it too was closed! She was VERY confused by the snow and refused to walk in it--then sat in her buggy looking completely baffled. She looked so cute in her bright pink coat against the stark white snow when we eventually persuaded her out, but think she was very happy to be home again.
I grew up in London and have never seen snow like this except when on hols in Reykjavik.

I had the call thats DS2's school is shut again tomorrow so I am able to reassure him about that.

Can anyone guess how long it was before he started asking about Wednesday?

We got the buggy with the extra big wheels (that I normally hate because it's so bulky) out of the garage and had it set up and were just about ready to set off when a neighbour told me she'd had a call to say the kids' school was closed.

They've been driving me nuts all day.

The taxi driver phoned at 7am to say ds's school was closed but then we had to listen to the radio for ages to find out about dd's school, which was closed too. Then dh reappeared having failed in his attempts to get to work so thank goodness he was able to look after dcs while I walked miles to feed our horses.
Anyway, it was all quite good in the end and we had a lovely family afternoon up on the Downs with a sledge. Last time we had snow ds was very miserable and reluctant but today he seems to have 'got it' and had a great time being pulled along on the sledge. He even kept his gloves on which is unheard of!
I'm shattered now after spending the whole day trudging through snow but I'm consoling myself with the thought of all the calories I've burned and the fact that I have a good excuse for not taking dd to her swimming lesson tonight.

PCF, I too had my ds2 going crazy for a good hour and a half because his bus didnt come. We were stood outside for half an hour playing in the snow though waiting for it which he enjoyed.

No - DSes school open - but we only had the lightest dusting of snow here in the mild West this morning, much to all our disgust. Then this afternoon it snowed quite heavily and settled . DS1 delighted - great snowball fight in the garden after school - DS2 less enchanted. He sneaked a few looks out of the window, but as far as touching the snow or going out in it - are you mad mother?.

Very sweet - he calls it 'nose'
