I have been lurking on here for a while and think its about time I joined in!!

Now where to start!! DD is 3.1yrs old but is probably at around 18-24mths level at the moment. She has mildish hypotonia, Reflux, DD was severely failure to thrive at one point because of this, thankfully that has now been resolved since her Reflux has been properly treated but she still has feeding difficuties, although she will have anything in her mouth, she will only swallow fluids and purees, any lumps/funny texture she will gag on. She took her first steps at 18 months but it took her a LONG time to master walking, she is still quite unsteady and walks with a wide gait and struggles with kerbs and steps. She does struggle with her fine motor skills although she has made a lot of improvement of late. She has very little speech, probably around 20 words at the moment and most seem to start with B ie Ball, Bus!! Receptive language came very late, it is only the last year that she has started to follow instructions and understand what we say. She is very socialable, loves playing with other children, she is very cheeky and is very independent despite her lack of speech.

She has had numerous tests which has all been negative apart from the barium swallow which showed severe reflux. We are under a geneticist, who hasn't really come up with a lot, she does want to test DD for Prader willi syndrome next time she has any blood tests, but she said that she would be very surprised if DD has it, but that she cannot ignore the feeding difficulties and FTT that DD had as a baby and now has practically doubled in weight even though she needed to IYKWIM. DD's development peadiatrician suggested that her problems could be down to her feeding difficulties as a baby as she may not have been getting enough nutrition to develop properly and she certainly has made tremendous progress since her FTT has been resolved.

DD currently attends a special needs nursery 3 days a week and our local preschool group for the other 2 days, but I am considering sending her to the SN nursery full time in September.

Anyway, I could go on typing for days and I don't want to bore you all just yet!!, Looking forward to getting to know you all!!

Welcome to mumsnet and the SN board.

I have 2 boys. My 4yr old has a dx of autism and is in a mainstream school. My 2yr-old has a preliminary dx of autism and will be going to a mainstream playgroup/pre-school later in the year.

Hi, Welcome dellie.

I have two sons - ds2 has no specific dx, but has global delay (no babble, no receptive language skills and not yet walking) and we are just entering the SN world of Physio's and SALT's. Your dd sounds a little darling

I've not been posting much this week because of half term, but I find this site invaluable and its great having some newcomers (I still think of myself as a newcomer having discovered MN in October last year!)

Welcome to macwoozy too

Hi Delllie, welcome, glad you took the step from lurker to poster! As a lurker you'll already know that this site is fab, it's friendly, supportive, full of advice, warmth and humour.

My daughter is 3years 2months and has Down's syndrome. She attends a mainstream montessori pre-school. She is just about to try a couple of full days there, so she'll do all day Mon & wed, half day Tues. Thursdays we take her to a private SALT (speech and language therapy) group and Friday is for physio, OT (occupational therapy) and SALT at the local NHS hospital and for portage appointments, and a bit of mother & daughter time.

Anyway, look forward to 'chatting' to you more.

TC x

Hi Dellie! Welcome to mumsnet. My dd is 2yrs 4 months. Has a condition known as Aicardi Syndrome which manifests as learning disability and epilepsy. She is globally delayed, currently developmentally about 1yr-18 months.

Just a thought - if you live in the London area some of us are meeting up next Friday. You (and anyone else new) would be very welcome to join us. See the SN Feb Meet-Up thread if you are interested.

Look forward to chatting more.

Welcome from me too. I've joined MN only 3 weeks ago or so and I really like it here. I have a DS (5) who is profoundly deaf and wears hearing aids. He is doing very well with them, attends mainstream school, has good speech, is sociable etc. He's a happy little boy and makes us very proud of him.

ThomCat - I saw your cute DD in the magazine too. I only browsed through it at Waterloo station after I'd read on here that she'll be in it.

I'm going in to work next week and if I make it till Friday (my last week before maternity leave starts), I'll try and join you for the meet-up. I work nearby, off Totenham Ct Rd.

Hi Dellie, welcome. I have DT's age 2.5yo, dd is globally delayed too, with hypermobility, hypotonia, a huge head, an open fontanelle and a provisional dx of autism. This board has been invaluable to me, and i hope you will find it just as great.

Hi Dellie,

Glad you've posted - welcome

My dd is 10 months old & globally delayed (no definitive dx yet). She has moderate hypotonia, cortical visual impairment, nystagmus & isn't too fond of solids either (we're about to see a dietician & SALT as she gags all the time with solids & her weight's starting to tail off).

Looking forward to hearing more about your dd.

Hi to macwoozy too

Hi Dellie, just wanted to add another welcome . I am quite new here too, I have one ds, age 3 years 2 months. He has a dx of autism and is in a mainstream nursery. Hope you'll find this board as much of a lifeline as I have - it's quite addictive!

Hi, welcome Delllie,
I have only been on the board for a couple of weeks as well but have found everyone really friendly and supportive. I have a 5mth old ds who was born with a hole in his bowel, has severe allergies and reflux, and has concerns over his hearing (back to assessment tomorrow.) Glad to have you aboard and hope to see you in here at times. BTW we are in NZ

Welcome from me too....interesting household here...I have 3 sons- ds1 is 11 and has ADHD/ASperger's-autism,ds2 is 8 and has Asperger's/autism,ds3 is likely ADHD/AS too...but still 'just' seen as 'attention seeking'...and 'a bright button'(well- that's what THEY say!!!!)
I have been treated for Anxiety/depression for 9 years....and through the 'learning curve' that i have wandered finding out about Asperger's and ADHD...i am now certain that i have some form of this too.
My husband is very AS too....and has a son from a previous marriage with ADHD/AS too..... so me thinks there's a good chance my DH has 'IT' too!!!

We go a bit silly on this SN board sometimes....when we get the urge!!! often us regulars post stuff which is NOTHING to do with SN really...but we KNOW OUR FRIENDS ARE HERE!!!!

P.s....WHERE IS MACWOOZY???? ....all this attention and she's not here to lap it up!
