Adults - do you wear a helmet?

It's been over a decade since I've skied. I've been a handful if times so not a novice but choosing to take intermediate lessons as a refresher. Hat only in the past - I've never worn a helmet. Do you choose to wear one as an adult?

I never have however due to dc not been for 3/4 years, my parents (who also never did when we were growing up) tell me everyone does now including them.

Just back from Austria and almost everyone had a helmet on

Yes, there are very few people out on the slopes with no helmet these days.

I didn't when I used to go (4/5 years ago) but I absolutely would now.
I think you would stand out like a sore thumb without one!

Yes. Only people without tend to be in their 50s/60s - stick out like a sore thumb. Absolute madness not to wear one.

Yes and it really is the norm these day (God knows where wanderingtrolley is skiing).

I have had two freak incidents where I hit my head hard enough to be very glad of the helmet (once whipped round the head with a rogue T-bar lift, once clipping a lump of ice on the slopes, spinning round and falling down the slope backwards straight into my head) - both times I felt quite dazed even with the helmet, without I dread to think!

Worth saying in the 8 years or so since I first skied helmet wearing has increased massively

Yes. I would never ski without one. Hardly ever see anyone these days not wearing one.

Yes. The only people I see not wearing them now are the ESF instructors and adults over 60
It is definitely the norm now, and not the exception.

Wander- no idea where you ski. But it's def the norm now to wear helmets in France, Switzerland, Austria and over Scandinavia.

Yes. Why wouldn't you? Last couple of times I've been to the french alps virtually everyone was wearing one.

Yep - in last eight years I've skied in France, Switzerland, Norway, US, Canada & Japan and those who don't are the definite minority.

Crazy not to in my opinion and sets very bad example if you're skiing with DC

Definitely, my 60+ Dh does. Was very unimpressed that the company he skied with in January did not include one as part of the hire package and had no facility to add one in.

Agree with everyone else (apart from wandering!). Helmets are the norm. I even saw an ESF instructor wearing one this year.

Yes, I have worn one since started skiing with DC (9 years this year) would feel odd not to.

Have done every year since 2007. An Austrian politician's wife was killed in a skiing accident and her death changed the attitudes in Austria. We were surprised by how light & comfortable they are. Helmets are now compulsory for under 14s in Italy and for under 15s in some of the Austrian provinces.

Have done since 2003. When I started wearing one I used to get stared at and it was unusual to see an adult wearing one, maybe the odd snowboarder. Now it's more unusual to see someone not wearing one I reckon.

Always. If my husband hadn't been wearing his helmet last year I'd probably be a widow now.

I was suprised by how comfortable they are too. We skied this year Fter a break and found it as warm as a hat & not heavy either.

No, we don't, and we don't see many people wear one either.

The most recent research about bike helmets by the way, is that they might cause more problems than they prevent...
