Wondering if any parents are entering their girls into the WGS senior entrance exam in January? I know the setup is slightly different this year in that there is an extra class of year 6 juniors at WGS meaning that there are possibly fewer places for external candidates.

I wonder whether that will make a difference to girls applying externally?

Also, I'm interested to hear about interviews. If you get an interview, does it mean you are through providing you don't crumble, or are they just selecting the very best from a large group of interviewees?

Hello

did you find out any more information re the impact of having another year 6 class to compete with. My daughter is sitting the entrance exam in January, amongst others. I am really starting to feel anxious.

sorry also meant to say re interviews that from the impression I got at open day was that there may be more interviews and what you can bring to the school as opposed to just academics maybe more important since the new Head took over, but maybe not that was just my impression.

Not all girls in the juniors will stay on...some will go to other schools for their own reasons.

This may not be relevant next year but certainly this year, AGGS had an extra class in Year 7 this year and I know there are quite a lot of girls went there from the junior school at WGS (more than usual I believe) - perhaps because the distance places were offered to was so unusually far. Same thing may happen next year and mitigate the extra internal candidates at WGS?

Hi Ivyfoy have you heard anymore about the number of candidates for places this year and the effect of the AGGS extra year class?

Does anyone else know how difficult it is to get a bursary? Is it only for those who ace the exam?

Hi Manchester 321

I don't know the answer to this other than Withington don't hand out any scholarships therefore surely fair consideration should be given to all girls requiring financial assistance if they pass the exam and interview.

Is your daughter sitting next week? If so all the best.

There is only a limited pool of girls too remember - so most of the ones in the extra Upper II class would have been sitting anyway, just from a different school.

Hi

before you go! sorry I don't have direct experience but could she be moved to a new school?- I do have experience of moving my child x2 due to job relocations and I think that as long as all is well and stable at home they adapt really well.

Hi

yes, I just want the agony to be over really. No non - verbal reasoning paper? I hadn't really asked my DD about the exam as didn't want to stress her out about her other exams.

IvyFoy · 10/01/2017 15:26

No, just verbal. Were you expecting non-verbal? Hope your DD has done well. Did she site Man High today? We've only sat WGS so holding out on an offer. 😳

Hi IvyFoy

well I wish your DD all the best, can it be that hard?! There were just so many girls there taking the exam. My DD sat MHSG she said the papers were 'less difficult' but that there was non- verbal which she isn't so keen on. I was surprised WGS didn't do non verbal - is that because there is a disadvantage to state pupils in that they would not be exposed to non- verbal papers?

IvyFoy · 11/01/2017 11:19

I've no idea why they only do verbal, I don't have much experience of entrance exam styles. Fingers crossed for both of them. Best of luck xx

It might be because they do 2 maths papers as part of the exam, and maths uses similar cognitive skills to NVR.

Hello, wanted to join the thread for moral support! My DD sat both WGS and MHSG this year and thought the WGS paper was harder! My DD finds non verbal difficult, verbal is a lot easier for her so fingers crossed for an interview.

Hi Bubbles- it is such a stressful time I never thought it would be this bad. My daughter took all her exams in her stride but has had a bit of a meltdown now worrying that she won't get an interview to anywhere! one Mum I know whose children didn't sit the exam said to me that she heard WGS was gruelling!

Hello Mollymoo, It is very stressful, my DD also sat Stockport Grammar last Wednesday and we got the Interview letter on Friday. I spoke to both admissions offices at WGS and MHSG last week and they are very clear that they won't send out the Interview letters until this week! I can't stand the suspense!

I think WGS is always the hardest.

So sorry to hear that Molly Moo. We got our letter too this morning and we do have an interview. You might still get WGS, think positive.
