Husband joked I was thick

Husband, mil and I just went shopping. While in a large supermarket I picked up bread to go in the trolley. I said that it was nice and thick. He said "a bit like you then!" I hit him with the bread but laughed it off. He then ran off to tell his mum what he said. She and also a lady in a wheel chair also laughed. I told husband that it was a good job he was hiding behind his mum otherwise I would let him have it! We carried on shopping and I forgot all about it. However in the car mil started laughing saying that my husband made that woman's day when he said I was like the bread (thick). They both laughed. I am now very cross with husband that he would say that in public and that him and his mother find it so funny. She is always fawning over him saying how intelligent he is too. Grrrrr. Had to rant. Am I being over sensitive? Hubby doesn't know why I am cross.

That's what you get when you marry a 10 year old.

Aw, OP Flowers

I'm sure it was a genuine joke but has he said it before? You may be being sensitive because it is a recurring thing. If not, you probably are being a bit delicate.

I don't think you're being over sensitive at all.
My husband and I have little digs at eachother in a very joking way similar to what you describe. That's our sense of humour and we both know the other isn't serious. Your husband letting others in on the joke so they could basically have a good laugh at your expense was fucking horrible! I'd be livid.

Just get him back by calling him a mummys boy , im sure he didn't mean it and was just joking. Its an easy come back after what you said about the bread and he just thinks he is funny. Let them do the shopping together in future seem to have the same IQ

Ask him if laughter comes with his "joke" or is an optional extra? I agree with betty

I wouldn't laugh at that and actually be very hurt. How disrespectful.

I'm much more academically qualified than my husband but would never taunt him with that. He has many more skills than me in many areas and wouldn't taunt me about that either.

I would just laugh this off personally but that's how we are together and it's both sides but I understand not everyone is as immature as us Grin. I would start calling him a mummy's boy from now on and see how he likes the "joke" being at his expense.

Show him something really small and tell him haha just like your dick. Then call his mum and tell her the same joke and end it with hahaha soooooo funny. In fact wait till you all go to the supermarket and do it then.

Actually I tore a strip of Dh for doing this, it's belittling you.

Me, him and mil were eating dinner when mil said 'goodness pot, have you eaten all that!?' Dh responded with 'yeah - pots a machine!' Mil tittered.

I responded with ' funny that isn't it as actually I'm the only one with out an eating problem - what with you (Dh) being obese and you (mil) practically starving yourself every day' and me in a normal weight ....' It was never said again

Don't become the butt of his jokes.

Hahaha ceramicglass yes it's a shame we weren't near to the cocktail sausages! I did say to the woman - look at him hiding behind his mammy, he's too scared to come out now. She laughed than and said he had been owned. 😉

Honestly this is the sort of joke me and dp would make to each other without a care. It really wouldn't upset me or him.

It's not the first time he's said this - a few weeks ago mil was telling us about an article that she had read about how children get their intelligence from their mothers. Husband responded by saying - that's them screwed then! Mil laughed and laughed and said "you are so cruel" she then said that is why husband was so intelligent then. 😡

You all sound about 10.

You hit him round the head with the bread? He ran off and told his mother what he had said? So it was okay when he first said it but now you are arsey?

None of you sound like adults tbh.

We joke to each other all the time. It's fine when it's just us. I feel he went too far when he ran to tell his mum and a random shopper heard too. When it's just him and I we have banter and take the piss out of each other but it's when he gets his mother involved it makes me mad.

It's a bit mean, but if you're used to that sort of joking between you it's fine, for me the issue is going and telling his mum. That's just weird. And then his mum repeating it later and still laughing, that's out and out mean.

It's like he is a small child seeking parental approval from his mummy for being mean to his wife and she doled it out in spades. Quite unpleasant really.

It was very unpleasant tbh. He's a real mummys boy, as I said she is always fawning over him. I'd actually forgotten about the whole incident until she brought it up in the car.
