I went for a run and wish I hadn't

Me and DH are on a diet. We have both agreed we need to shed some pounds and it's been two weeks. He's lost weight and I haven't. I know I need to exercise and so I announced to him this morning "I'm going for a run". He sniggered.
I am not a runner - at all.
Well because of the snigger, I pushed myself hard and completed 2.5k - this is amazing for me and I was really chuffed.
When he came home I told him, he smirked and said "that's only half a mile" (it's not its 1.5 miles ish), he looked at the tracker map thing on the app I'd downloaded then he just moved the conversation on.
I am so crest fallen that he didn't say well done 😢.
Yes I'm after a bit of attention....shamelessly! And to declare, my husband's a twat!!!

Does he actually want you to succeed or does he enjoy the fact that he's doing better on the diet?

He's an arse for not supporting you, well done for getting out there & doing it!

That's a really good start! Keep it up

Nasty bastard, I'd be telling him it would be wise to set off at at a run but that's a different matter altogether Wink. Tell him to fuck himself and give yourself a massive pat on the back, good for you! Hope your running goes from strength to strength. The couch to 5k app is great for this, ran my 1st 10k I'm under an hour last year training with it Smile

He's being grade A tit. Well done OP. 2.5k for a first run, is a cracking achievement. Make sure you warm down & be prepared for a bit of thigh burnage in the morning! Wink

Just keep on upping the distance a bit each time you run.... Log it.... But keep quiet

Then one day you can suggest you both go out and run, then you can show him what's what.Wink

I'd hazard a guess that he'll sabotage you all the way through this OP.

Sounds like a prize shit.

One of the reasons I don't use an app. I don't want my achievements judged! I use a paper map and string instead.

What a prick!

Even at my fittest, I found running really bloody hard work- so massive well done for doing what you've done! I would completely struggle to run all that way now, I'm completely a sprinter over a runner and would be dying behind you!

You are a superstar!

What a horrible man Sad.

Is he always such a waste of space?

Report
Shizzlestix · 25/07/2016 19:28

He should be celebrating that with you. I'd fall over 5 yards, so 1.5 miles is amazing, well done. Don't let him sabotage you or put you down. If this is his sense of humour, he needs a serious wee word about how you're making an effort to be healthier: does he not want this for you?

ButteredToastAndStrawberryJam · 25/07/2016 19:30

He's probably done you a favour in a crappy way, help it give you strength to beat him, then if he keeps acting up, maybe it's time for a change in more ways than one.

Girl well done, ignore your husband. We all start somewhere. Please keep going, I try to exercise 5 days a week and it has got easier. I'm seriously overweight but Shaun T helps Grin

Well I used to be in the Army and our fitness test was a 1.5 mile run. So tell him you can do what a soldier can do Grin

You don't need to tell him it was a basic fitness test and had to be done within a certain time...

imwithspud · 25/07/2016 19:37

Oh ignore him, 2.5k is amazing for someone who doesn't usually run. I have never been for a run and I doubt I could get close to that.

Challenge him to do the same and see how he gets on, arsehole.

KittyandTeal · 25/07/2016 19:43

Fuck that! Everyone's gotta start somewhere. I run 10-12k once a week plus 2 other shorter runs. 2 years ago I couldn't run up the road. 2.4k as a start isn't nothing, it's bloody brilliant, and I have a suspicion your h knows it which is why he's poo pooing it.

Tell him to get off his arse and run 1.5 miles straight off. Bet he couldn't.

Running has honestly changed my life, I was pretty fit before but it has absolutely changed my mind set and has raised my confidence, every time I run a new distended or new time it's like a 'wow, I never imagined I could do that' I'm running the London marathon this year. Yes it'll be hard, no I can't do it right know but I will bloody well do it.

You should be really proud of yourself.

Report
AdoraBell · 25/07/2016 19:46

Bloody well done OP

I would leave the tracker thingy behind in future and run the same route but aim for another 500 metres each time. That way you know you are improving but he has nothing to comment on. If he asks just tell him you "had a great run, thanks" with a big grin and change the subject. He sounds jealous at best and a twat at worst.

Your DH is a total twat. Well done to you. I took up running 15 months ago, couldn't run 100 yards, now I can do 7.5 miles. I'm doing a 10 mile race in October, up to date I've done 2 x 10k, 1 x 5k and 1 x8k races, plus I do parkrun every week (5k) and 2 other 5-8k runs per week.

Keep going. Stuff him!
