First baby - the pushchair minefield - HELP please?

Hi
We are expecting our first baby and have started looking at car seats and pushchairs etc. I know different car seats e.g. Maxi-cosi can be fitted onto different pushchairs which we probably plan to do unless a pushchair make has a good car seat (everyone seems to rave about maxi cosi) but I'm also looking for a pushchair that:

a) Is suitable from birth until (around 3y ??) - from what I've read it needs to have a lie flat mode for newborns. And some have a carry cot bit that can be used like a moses basket - is this a good idea if baby falls asleep during a walk as you can leave them in then?
b) Compatiable for a 2nd child as we will probably have another baby within 2 years if all goes to plan (I know thats a big IF)
c) Is suitable for more rural terrain, we live in the countryside so I'd still like to be able to walk the dog etc.
d) Easy to fold etc. and put in the boot (VW Golf Mk 5)
Is there anything else I've not mentioned I should look for?

I'm hoping that if we get an idea of some suitable models we've got a bit of time to find one on e-bay (obviously planning to get a new car seat).

I think a out n about will fill all your criteria other than being suitable for a second child...

Trying to find a one size fits all is really hard, when you start talking about doubles! They really are a whole other subject and trying to combine the two, would leave you compromising somewhere else along the way.

The out n about nipper is great for dog walks, light and fairly compact....
A cot is really useful but never for long but if you are going to be using it heavily and on bumpy terrain probably worth getting one, and if you walk to/from home then yup at least you can carry them in asleep.
We've had a baby jogger city mini which I loved and fit every aspect other than the off road aspect, we then got a spaniel and got the nipper out n about and you can't beat it - they are also a really affordable price for what you get.
Might be worth looking at a baby jogger city select which I can use with one or 2 children but I'm not sure how it would do off-road? They are also pricey!

Oyster Maxx- The wheels are great for all terrain. Has a carry cot and can be easily converted to a double buggy (whilst looking fine as a single!)

Uppababy vista matches your requirements. The bassinet is suitable for over night sleeping. Anything which is suitable for 2 will not very light weight. Try booking an appointment at John Lewis to test out some prams.

I wouldn't buy something for two. It will be heavy unessecarily and won't fold small.

Also it may not be needed, we have a 15month gap and never used a double pram. most also are god only for certain gaps ie good for one year gap but rubbish for newborn and toddler, or good for newborn but second seat not reclining so only good for elder child. So until you know age gap it could be unsuitable anyway

I see what you mean about not worrying about ability to become a double yet so if I just look at singles from now on .....
Nipper fans are you talking about the nipper single or sport (from the website I'm not sure if the sport can accommodate a carry cot or if those wheels are suitable for everyday use
The off road will mostly be grass / woodland tracks which join up with a road again on our walking loops but i was thinking to get a sling of some sort for longer off road walks

We went with the bugaboo cameleon but it's not all terrain. The mountain buggy terrain and or the bugaboo buffalo might suit you though?

I came on to say uppababy vista but see lots of others have already too - it is fantastic. I used it every single day for two years on rough terrain and it's still going strong.

Mountain buggy swift is worth looking at. It's smaller than the mountain buggy urban and terrain but wheels still 10 inches so good in rough terrain still. It's also only 9kg so not as heavy as other models for lifting in and out car and smaller folding. Main seat can be used from birth, but can also add a carrycot that also converts to parent facing seat after. It's a good price also

Wouldn't suggest bugaboo. The chameleon we had was great on paths, but crap on rough terrain, failed completely in snow. The bugaboo buffalo is better but it's huge. Folds huge, really heavy and high up so hard to see over unles super tall

After walking in to Mothercare & almost having a panic attack about the ridiculous amount of prams & 'travel systems' of varying prices that all seemed to do the same thing, we went to Babies R Us & spoke to the woman on that department.

We told her what we wanted - suitable from birth to toddler, car seat included, light, easy to fold down - and she recommended the Cosatto Giggle 2. We found a lovely one in the Black Friday sale.

We have the icandy all terrain. Copes with trails, snow, beach, bumpy fields. It's not the lightest but actually folds pretty small. Can always get them on eBay at a very reduced cost (often new but last years colours)

Strawberry - out and about nipper 360 single, will do you perfectly fine.

Really recommend it and such a good price, ours had a rain cover included too.... you don't get an under basket but they aren't that expensive as an extra accessory.

For what it's worth We borrowed a bugaboo chameleon and I gave it back pretty promptly. Couldn't get to the basket, was really low to the ground and folding it was a pain, the nipper is far better imo!
